We went there for dinner right after hiking in North Vancouver, there weren't many choices left after 8:30pm so we took a look of the Google map and found this place!

It was quite busy in the restaurant so we needed to wait for around 20 minutes to be seated. We ordered the Black Ramen and Hire Katsu, for 2 people.

The Black Ramen was made in creamy pork broth and home made black garlic oil, however, I didn't taste much garlic flavor from that. The noodle itself was right for me, it will be better if being asked how I wanted the ramen to be like - soft? or firm? The cha siu (slices of pork) was just very thin, couldn't really taste that and it was like too plain - not even seasoned or torched the surface.

The Hire Katsu was also just OK, not too bad but not so outstanding. I guess it was because of the Katsu batter. The pork filets were not thick enough so it was a bit toughen and not so juicy inside, but the refill of miso soup, salad and rice can be refilled as many as you want. So we got another free miso soup and free salad.

The atmosphere in the restaurant is quite cozy and simple, and the staffs were friendly. There is not many other Katsu place in West Vancouver, so this restaurant is definitely one of the special places.

Next time if I go to West Van/North Van, and if I crave for katsu again, I might consider going back and try...

Edit September 9 2021 - So I called as requested and asked to speak to the manager as I was responding to their google review response. I was told the person who picked up is the manager and she replied with “yes, we’re good.” That’s it. The phone call literally ended after that. What an uneventful phone call. There was no “appreciation for the opportunity to make things right”. If I could give minus stars I would. Horrible customer service, horrible follow up service, horrible lack of care.

We came here after reading the good reviews but was not impressed. The ramen was ok. Not amazing but not bad. The cheese katsu was supposed to come with unlimited rice, which is why it’s put into a very tiny rice bowl. The ramen and katsu came at separate times and was brought by two different servers. Both times they left the food on the table and did not give us utensils. After they left the katsu on the table no one checked up on us to refill waters or to give us a rice refill. We looked for service multiple times and was ignored. What’s worse is when we went to pay, the female server was looking over to see how much tip she would get. If the service was better maybe you guys wouldn’t have to be so worried about how much tip you received. It was a horrible experience and we will not be...

Very clean and spacious (COVID rules?), this is Korean run, they do a good job. The kitchen is well set up, either they got experience or a good consultant. The entire restaurant, even the bathrooms, appear to be very well cleaned. But let's get to the food. The ramen noodles are ok to good no complaints. The broth though ... have I ever tested a more perfect broth? Full of flavour but not heavy, not too fatty (I would say on the light side) while still being rich and not too salty. Huge thumbs up for this one. I suppose it is seasonal but at this time, I can't imagine a better ramen broth in town. The basic was already good, the black garlic provides a very special hit of flavour. Also tried the fish katsu and true to form, these guys know how to fry. If it were fish 'n chips, I have do not recall better fried fish in recent memory. My gosh, crispy, light, not greasy at all and the fish was nice too, not some generic "basa". The only meh component was the rice, which was passable but not premium. Portions I would say are "right sized", you won't be rolling out of there but you will be satiated. Pricing is average for ramen these days. This one is an easy recommendation. Would be...

The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. I liked the cherry blossom tree decor at the center of the restaurant. There were both regular dining tables as well as bar seats at the side of the kitchen. Server was nice on the phone when making reservation as well as very friendly during the visit. It's was very nice to have the options of Rosu (loin) and Hire (fillet) for all the Katsu main dishes, even the kid's menu. Curry was tasty and, like typical Japanese curry, it was mild in terms of spiciness. The dressing for the side salad was very good, I finished every single bit of it. The side miso soup was rich and delicious. The ramen was the thicker and curly type of noodle compared to the thinner and straight type servers in she ramen shop. I prefer the thicker type personally. The chashu was not too fat but still tender and juicy. We ordered the Black Ramen and it came with garlic slices/pieces, which added richer flavors to the bowl. The washroom was clean and is wheelchair accessible. We will definitely come back again and will recommend this restaurant.
