Two visits, the second being a follow-up to the highly enjoyable first evening by the water.
First the good: These waffles are better quality and better dressed (ice cream, syrups, sauces, fruit, etc.) than any I've had world wide, including Benelux. Belgium, Netherlands, nor Luxembourg have nothing on these guys, nor do the street food vendors in Bangkok, and that's saying a lot! They proudly use whole eggs which make a huge difference, but they have an egg white only version which they readily admit isn't the same. Coffee is excellent as well, being large, rich, served properly hot and to order along with food upon request so that it doesn’t cool off. Chef’s kiss here, for sure.
So why would I give only three stars for such a delicious little hidden gem getaway with great views of the water, so near the walking pier? Simply, it was the cranky and abusive old man (owner?) running the place from whom I would no longer entrust to make my food after only our second visit. After agreeing to serve and seat us curbside ten minutes before their 8 p.m. closing time, their credit card machine seemed to offer so many cryptic options for completing payment that even HE couldn’t figure it out. He finally reset it to the point that I (clearly!) stated that I would pay cash for the tip and would just pay the main bill by card. He immediately began slamming dishes around and barely pretending to mutter about how outrageous it was that at 10 minutes before close we would leave no tip. It began to extend, so I had to interject that we had clearly stated that we would pay a tip in cash and that this was something no employee should express to their customer. I was sure to remain at the counter, sensing lingering resentment after no apology whatsoever, to observe his preparation of my wife’s food.
Yes, we tipped generously and thanked him for serving us at that late hour.
In fairness, the lady who had served us the day before was kind, helpful, efficient. and gracious. The prices are somewhat inflated, so it’s a shame that the service suffered so abruptly the next day. Take a...
Read moreMy friend, who owns the "Canadiana Gifts" few stores down the road, took me to this new waffle place. We got to know this couple a little bit while we were there. I learned that they just took the ownership of this place in March 2019. The owner is originally from Frence. His wife is a lovely Chinese lady. They were so friendly and welcoming us as we enter the store.
The decor is nice and bright. We tried the "Paradise Waffle". It was so good! They made everything in store and from scratch! You can taste the homemade waffles!
Their coffee was nice and smooth. We were sitting there and chatting with my friend for a long time. We decided to order the second run. This time we tried "Strawberry and Banana Crepe". I generally dislike whip creams, but I love their Strawberry and Banana Crepe. The whip cream is homemade it tasted so much better than the ones from the store. The crepe was nice texture. It has fresh banana, stawberry, whip cream and some crushed almond nuts inside. It created different layers of taste. My friend dislike banana, but she likes the banana and strawberry crepe they made. It goes so well together that she didn't mind the banana all. We both loved it.
The lady also treated us a free homemade spinach crepe which is not on their menu. The crepe has multiple grains with homemads salsa. It was so good!
Really nice couple who runs this place! If you get to talked to them you will like the hospitality and friendliness.
We definitely will come back! And we recommend you to...
Read moreI went on Victoria Day and this was one of the few places open before lunchtime. Here are the issues:
1 - They take an automatic gratuity when you are purchasing the food, which I am not sure is legal. Even if it is legal, it's wrong. 2 - There is an older man working there who has an absolutely terrible attitude. 3 - Seating is uncomfortable and the ambiance is more sterile than a high school cafeteria. 4 - Food was mediocre and the eggs were undercooked. 5 - As we were eating, the lady cleaned the adjacent table by spraying the cleaner directly onto the table instead of the cloth, and in our direction, allowing us to have a nice few seconds of chemical mist added to our dining experience. The worst part is that they have a bathroom key attached to a handle. That's terrible for hygiene and it's not necessary, regardless of what they say. We observed one of the staff (the one who cleaned the adjacent table) return from the washroom, place the key down and go right back to work without washing her hands.
The only good thing I have to say is that the other lady who works there and served us was nice, and seemed to be trying her best to provide a bit of...
