Been here plenty of times and always leave happy and full. The portions to price is quite fair and a good value compared to other Thai places in the city. There are menu items you cannot find at other Thai places, because I think this restaurant is owned by Thai-Laotian?

Anyway, my favourite is the Nam Khao Tod (Lao crispy rice salad with fermented pork), holy crap--if you love textural foods, you HAVE to try it! It is salty, sour, and complex flavours with crunchy rice bits, fresh herbs, chopped fermented pork sausage, pork skin, and wrapped in lettuce. Incredible value at $15.99 that can be enjoyed on its own or shared.

For other foods, I like ordering the Laab/Larb, extra spicy. The curries are pretty delicious too, like the Massaman, peanut curry, and red curry (forgetting the names right now). The Lao pho is a must try for pho fans, the portion is huge and can be shared, and there is also a chicken noodle soup made with handmade noodles if that is more of your thing. We also tried the highly acclaimed soft shell crab curry in a yellow curry sauce, which I found to be okay. The curry sauce is tasty, but I found the soft shell crab to be overbattered (it is deep fried), and I can barely taste the crab inside. We found it to be too much and rich in carbs and wished we got more crab. Glad we tried it, but in our opinion, we found other dishes to be much more satisfying.

If I had some criticisms about the restaurant and food, it would be that they are a bit heavy handed on the salt and would ask for less next time, especially if you are wanting to watch your sodium. As well, they removed paper menus and transitioned into tablet ordering which we are not a fan of. It doesn't allow for us to ask for customisations and defeats the purpose of just talking to a server. For example, they only have 3 spice levels listed, and the spiciest level on the tablet is basically a mild for us. ☠️ Otherwise, the food is top notch. Service is attentive and prompt. Restaurant is immaculately clean.

St. James is quite lacking in good Asian restaurants, so having Baan Thai in this part of the city is a treat. If we lived further away, it is still worth the drive. Try this place out if you want...

Good food but not worth the horrible wait time and service. We called and ordered our food and were told it would be 90 minutes - which is fine. But we got there and waited another 45 minutes for our food. A walk-in order got his food before us…. When we had ordered it an hour and a half before him! While we waited we were completely ignored by the staff - they gave us no updates on how long our order would be, and when my dad communicated how understandably annoyed we were with the wait time and service they did nothing. Oh no… the manager offered us a free iced tea…. We spent a ton of money on a big order, waited an extra 45 minutes with absolutely zero communication from their inept staff and he offered us one single iced tea and not even an apology. I honestly cannot believe them. I wouldn’t have been annoyed enough to write this review if they had at least said straight away, “I’m really sorry it’s crazy busy it will be another 45 minutes for your order” because then we at least would have just waited at home. I understand you had a busy evening, but everyone has busy evenings and giving me attitude telling me that you have “other customers you need to serve”… Not smart. Especially you are currently talking to one of your customers who you literally haven’t bothered serving!!! Hands down the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Even though the food was good, the service completely ruined our evening. Would...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Baan Thai Restaurant and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed. The food was absolutely delicious, with bold and authentic Thai flavors that left me wanting more. Not only was the food outstanding, but the restaurant itself was also incredibly clean and well-maintained.

What truly stood out to me, however, was the friendly and attentive staff. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and exceptional service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that my dining experience was enjoyable, and their hospitality truly made a lasting impression on me.

I highly recommend Baan Thai Restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience. The combination of delicious food, cleanliness, and friendly staff make this place a must-visit. I will definitely be returning in the...

We went there for our anniversary. We very much appreciated our first time there and we were glad that we chose the right restaurant for our special day. This restaurant is clean and we also like the way that they decorate inside, not much or not less. The food is awesome ,clean and fresh. We enjoyed it a lot. (We tried other Thai restaurants before but this one will be our favorite restaurant now. )The service is great , the owner is very kind, generous and friendly. Also the washroom is clean. We will go back again in the future. We really recommend this restaurant to you. 😍 Thank you very much to the owner for making our anniversary more special.😍 Khob Khun mark mark kha🙏🙏😍

My recent visit to Baan Thai for lunch was an absolute delight. It was my first time at this charming restaurant, and I was pleasantly surprised. The menu boasted a wide variety of vegetarian options too! I was impressed by the cleanliness and the lovely décor that created a warm and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant's ambiance was a harmonious blend of traditional Thai elements and modern comfort. However, the highlight was the food itself - it was excellent! We ordered the Pad Peanut and Thai Basil Eggplant Stir Frys and Thai Iced Tea. Every single item surpassed my expectations. I highly recommend Baan Thai to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience!
