Decent sub. Decent Viet dishes. Charming interior.
Their food is tasty enough. The Banh Mi although not my favourite ranks highly among the rest in the city. Although simple and standard by appearances. The dishes themselves tell a clear message. One of basic standard and quality. It's always good. Sometimes but rarely, it's great. But most importantly, it's never bad.
It's also unfortunate that the price on the Banh Mi increased so much so quickly here. About 3 minutes away is another spot makes the best Banh Mi you will ever have for 25cents more.
I think they have to step up their level with the Banh Mi or under cut them on price. I used to come here quite a bit for the subs whenever it wasn't just for myself. Now there's really no reason at all to come just for the sub. The sub itself also needs more strength to the pickling flavour in the carrot. It's too weak and should be crisp but instead is flimsy and thin sliced with barely any acidity in taste- which would really help cut and complement the well marinated and salty meats. Daikon would be nice to see as well but not so important or even necessary. Some would probably say it's unnecessary but I like it. I like the bun itself, it's fluffy with a light crust. The crust is in my opinion, too light or it should just be toasted as a standard. This would make it perfect. The rest is perfectly composed with enough meat, cilantro and chili which all tasted fresh. I would prefer the cucumber sliced slightly thicker and without these cuts from the edge that end up being 50 skin of the vegetable
Either way this is a Vietnamese restaurant that I look forward to frequenting and comforting in through the familiar and consistent...
Read moreStopped in here for lunch and the banh mi was fantastic, I'm going to have to come back and try some of their other flavors!
The pho was not as rich and deep as some other restaurants, which some other reviews have said may be because they don't use MSG, which I can't really fault them for. Don't get me wrong though, the pho was still very flavorful and the broth was smooth and refreshing, perfect for a hot summer day.
I was also very impressed with the portion size, it's been a long time since I've sat down in a Vietnamese restaurant and had a bowl of pho dropped in front of me that's so big that I wonder if I'll be able to finish it! It used to be a lot more common but I'm glad I found a place that is still generous!
I'll have to make up an excuse to bring my family...
Read moreTop place for banh mi in Winnipeg Bread: they use the actual Vietnamese baguette, which is crunchy outside but fluffy and soft inside. Many places use buns, which becomes mushy when there are sauce and pickles. Toppings: the cold cut meats are plenty and flavourful. They do not skim on the paté. Plenty of veggies that are fresh. Size: it a very big and heavy banh mi filled with so much toppings! I was very surprised with how big it is. Service: They ran out of tapioca pearls but couldn’t contact me because my sim card is having an issue. The worker wrote a very lovely note apologizing (I felt bad because it was an error from my end!)
Summary: great banh mi, very affordable,...
