India Palace is an institution that has been on Ellice for decades. Even a devastating fire couldn't shut them down. Best known for their buffet, they also serve menu items and some of the best Indian deserts. They also offer take out and are always taking telephone orders. They are not very busy during the lunch buffet, so you'll easily get a table. The buffet fare is varied, with both vegetarian and meat dishes available. A basic salad is offered of onions, cucumbers, tomatoes and carrots and lettuce. The vegetarian samosas are some of the best in Winnipeg, light, tasty and crispy, with tamarind sauce available. Indian condiments are there, such as Indian spiced pickles, yoghurt and hot chilies. The basmati rice is done to perfection, golden and light. The vegetable dishes are chickpea channa, lentil curry, and a delicious vegetable khorma, whose vegetables are tender and sweet. The meat dishes include beef curry, rich and flavorful, and butter chicken and tandoori chicken. One quibble might be that the chicken in the butter chicken is tandoori chicken, bones and all, rather than boneless chunks of tender chicken. So inspite of the delicious sauce, you do have to pick the bones out of the sauce. The diner is offered hot nan, regular or garlic, thin and served hot and smothered with ghee. Deserts are gulab jamun, the milk solid dessert balls smothered in a honey like cardomon syrup. Also crunchy orange jalebi are available, sweet and delicious. As this is buffet fare, unless you heat up your dishes with chilies and pickles, all the dishes are very mild. Traditional menu items like chicken vindaloo can be very hot, and are worth trying with a friend and a pitcher of water. Prices are very reasonable, 11.99 for lunch buffet, 14.99 for supper buffet and a couple dollars...
Read morevery bad service today from the owner and the employee. ordered garlic naan bread and i know what is garlic naan as i do go to other restaurants. the naan they served had no garlic just butter on them. i asked if they forgot to make garlic naan the employee wanted to add more garilc in it. i refused and said i dont want it anymore. me and me girlfried we just had a bite and they still charged us for the 1 naan.
they charge 2 dollar per naan and the naan with their buffet where other restaurants like tandoor house, sweet and samosa restaurant naan comes with buffet.
cant believe myself when the lady at the front was able to tell me she tried the naan and they were ok as if i'm lying.
i guess people who dont eat indian food everyday they eat everything they serve. but in my case it was a exeption.
sorry to say not goin there anymore as there are far better service and food available when it comes to indian food for winnipegers.
anyone can draw a picture of gaandhi to get publicity. but r u really following his teachings? shame on you....
Read moreEvery time I walk in the restaurant I’m greeted with warm hellos, and the aromas are so wonderfulI, can’t wait to eat. We eat at least monthly at the India Palace on Ellice Ave Winnipeg I love the buffet as the selection is very good and helpings are generous and price so reasonable I especially appreciate their butter chicken and beef curry as the sauces are so delicious and meat so tender and the vegetables korma sauce is out of this world you must take some home! I also regularly drop by for a dozen take out samosas. India Palace has the best and biggest samosas and tamarind sauce and value you can’t beat. But I also love the desserts especially the Jalebi, and the Gulab Jaman (so sweet) - you must take some home for later as you will be too full with the generous amount of food you get in the restaurant. I’m also amazed at such a full menu, everything your heart and tummy could desire. God bless this business with...
