Hello everyone & especially Desi Swag Team.
Visited the place multiple times, but Today, I felt like it deserved a Review.
Didn't do too much dining, but it is as follows:-
Ambiance: Nestled in the heart of the most populated area of the Desi community, "Desi Swag" is aptly named and emanates warmth with its cozy, well-lit interior adorned with vibrant Punjabi artwork and Punjabi music playing in the background. The ambiance effortlessly blends Canadian comfort with Punjabi vibrancy.
Service: From the moment you step in, the staff greets you with genuine smiles and courteous gestures. They're attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and eager to cater to dietary preferences, ensuring a seamless dining experience. (DID NOT have the same experience when I first visited this place, but every place deserves ANOTHER CHANCE!, this time they surprised me, give it a shot, you won't regret!!)
Food Quality: For the people looking for Halal meat, you're safe here.
Prepare your taste buds for a symphony of flavors! "Desi Swag" masterfully combines traditional Punjabi recipes, in cohorts with multicultural cusines, resulting in dishes that are both authentic and innovative. Each bite bursts with aromatic spices and fresh ingredients, showcasing the Restaurant's dedication to quality.
Recommended Dishes: I have not tasted the entire Menu, but will give you a brief idea about the flavour.
Samosa - Crunchy on the outside, yet flavourful on the inside, spice levels for the Samosa catering more towards the born Canadian population.
Hakka Noodles (Chicken+veggie) - For a taste of home with an Asian flair, featuring The Chicken Hakka Noodles at 'Desi Swag' is a delightful fusion dish, expertly blending the bold flavors of spices with the classic appeal of Chinese noodles. The tender chicken pieces perfectly complement the savory stir-fried noodles, while the colorful assortment of vegetables adds freshness and texture. A MUST try.
Tea (Chai): Who doesn't love Tea? From the restaurants I have tried in Winnipeg, I can wholeheartedly attest that Desi Swag has the best one. They put in effort into making the simplest of ingredients flavourful and a delight for Chai lovers.
Butter chicken: is okay'ish. spice levels vary and you are always asked prior to ordering, so Desi People choose the spicy one.
Overall Experience:
"Desi Swag" ; is an atmosphere filled with delight, speaking off of the dishes I have tasted, celebrates the rich tapestry of Canadian Punjabi cuisine in combination while celebrating food which tapps into different cultures. Whether you're a Punjabi food aficionado or a curious gastronome looking to explore new flavors, this restaurant promises a good dining experience.
With its inviting ambiance, impeccable service, and mouthwatering dishes, "Desi Swag" earns decent marks as a must-visit destination for food lovers.
Cons: The wait times on busy days can be extraordinarily exhausting, but it'll compensate itself with taste.
Recommend dining-in for freshly made off the cookery...
Read moreWe put enjoyed this place. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we ordered takeout a few days later! It has a fun atmosphere and great, friendly service. We were there after a very long day and planned to get something light cuz it was late night but we hadn't eaten since morning. The place was quite busy with a late night smorgasbord in full swing so we took part.
I know the pic I posted makes it look empty but the other side of the restaurant was quite full. They said they would continue to refill the buffet food until 11:30pm!
The buffet wasn't huge but it was very tasty. The butter chicken was just okay. Of course that is the standout dish that everyone on the planet seems to know so it should be amazing. It was 2-star, but everything else was fantastic.
The best for me was the what I think was the Desi Malai Tikka. I'm not sure if that was the name. It was not just traditional Murg Malai but had a gorgeous white sauce (maybe almond based?). Absolutely amazing. Shortly after we took ours it was emptied and we asked when they'd put more out and they said it had already been replaced with a fish dish. She saw my disappointment and offered to bring some from the kitchen! Wow, what service! They cooked it up just for us! Now I need to know for sure what that fish was! Soooo good!
When we ordered our takeout we thought we ordered that amazing dish but ended up getting Chicken Tikka Masala. Still good but it wasn't what we thought we ordered over the phone so that was a little crushing as I'm still dreaming about that dish! Maybe they can reply to this review and let me know the name of that gorgeous dish! Definitely recommend this place.
Bathrooms: good but they need a new garbage can with an easy to open lid or no lid at all. No one could figure out how to open it so used paper towels were strewn all over the counter. Liquid soaps were also empty. Kinda gross when you're...
Read moreWalking into Desi Swag was a breath of fresh air, a significant upgrade from its predecessor. The modern ambiance paired with vibrant Indian pop art immediately sets a welcoming tone, promising an experience that's as visually appealing as it is gastronomical.
The service here mirrors the warmth and hospitality India is known for; the servers were not just friendly but attentively tuned to our needs, ensuring our dining experience was smooth from start to finish.
As a vegetarian, the culinary journey at "Desi Swag" was nothing short of extraordinary. The palak paneer and shahi paneer were my choices for the evening, served alongside perfectly cooked rice and aromatic garlic naan. The palak paneer stood out, claiming the title of not just the best in town but potentially the best I've ever had. Its rich, dark green sauce, enveloping generous chunks of paneer, was a melody of flavours that danced on the palate.
Though Desi Swag is a non-alcoholic haven, their authentic Indian beverages - like the iconic Thumbs Up - caught my eye. However, the star drink of the evening was the post-dinner chai tea. It was a cup of creamy perfection, strongly spiced, and didn't need a grain of sugar to enhance its taste.
While there wasn't a singular standout moment, the entirety of the visit was memorable. Desi Swag strikes a perfect balance, offering an environment that's sophisticated enough for a romantic date night, yet retains a casual vibe for those spontaneous lunch runs or a relaxed dinner. I'm eagerly looking forward to my next visit to try the dosa, confident that it will be just as delightful as my first experience.
For anyone craving authentic Indian vegetarian cuisine or simply a unique dining experience in our city, Desi Swag is a must-visit. It's a testament to how traditional flavours can be celebrated in a modern setting, making it a jewel in our local...
