Walking in we were impressed. We had high hopes for this restaurant. I will say they have one of the nicest dining rooms out of the Ethiopian restaurants that I have been to. We have been trying all of them in the city.
I was disappointed by the portion sizes. I read elsewhere that they were very large, but every other Ethiopian restaurant we have been to had larger portions by a lot. Normally my friend and I order and we its way more than we can finish. This one left us hungry. There were 3 of us, but that shouldn't have affected it as we had 2 orders of meat combination and one vegetarian combo. We ended up ordering one more dish (the lamb chacha). I will say the lamb was cooked very nicely. This gets a 3 star, mainly because the other restaurants I have been to have much better value but equally good food. This would not end up being my first pick because of that. I was confused though, and wondered if we were given less, because we looked at other tables and they looked to be about the same for 2 people as we got for 3. It is possible that for some reason our portions weren't proper, and if that is the case then I'd elevate this to a 4, but from this visit I'm not likely to go back soon. The food itself was fine. It wasn't as in your face flavor as some other places, but it was a nice balance. The main meal was fine but the lamb did stand out compared to the combination platter. Service was friendly, but brief. Communication kept...

Now, about the food. I've had kitfo, which is to ground beef as sushi is to salmon, that is, rare, if that’s how you order it, at several Ethiopian restaurants now. This restaurant served it to me the rawest, and for that, I gotta give them five across the board.
Two criticisms, the servings were a bit small, though I still had to have it boxed away, and the cottage cheese was a bit more moist than I had in other Ethiopian restaurants, and I was told that is their regional style. Also, slightly less spicy than I have had elsewhere, though they do provide a side of spice powder for you to match to your taste.
This is my first visit in Winnipeg to an Ethiopian restaurant. Without being able to compare like with like, I give this...
Read moreThe food is heaven. My friends and I chose their 'timatim fitfit' for our appetizer and enjoyed the spicy and flavorful taste. It was so filling we thought we couldn't finish the main dish. We had the delightful meat and veggie combo for our main course, which was served in a huge and beautiful plate. The service was friendly and courteous and the place is bright and adorn with Ethiopian art.
This is our second visit to the place. During our first visit, it took forever for the food to arrive. To save valuable time, we phoned them and placed our order a full hour before arrival. We highly suggest doing this. We had a reserved table when we arrived but we still waited 20 minutes for the appetizer, which would have been longer had...
