My first visit, and easily could be my last. The food was pretty tasty, but the small portions with the high price tags don't make me eager to return. I ordered the California Club sandwich, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I especially appreciated the freshness of the ingredients they used. Disappointed to pay $19.00 for a sandwich though that didn't include any sides. Adding a handful of potato chips and a pickle would go a long way in adding value. This also holds true for the Braised Beef sandwich that my friend ordered for $20.00. Nobody wants to pay for a plate that is half empty! The Braised Beef Tacos were quite tasty but the dipping sauce was extremely salty. The salmon dish with orzo was also very tasty but there was an unusual amount of oil in the bottom of the dish. For dessert we ordered the peanut butter brownie which was over baked to the point of being crunchy. Again, a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top would be a welcomed addition for the $12.50 price tag. This particular dessert was quite dry and underwhelming to say the least. If you are going to order dessert, I recommend the Ube Cheesecake. Also pricey, but uniquely moist and delicious! Their selection of G-Rated & Elevated beverages are fantastic! I ordered the Passionfruit Mule and definitely would have enjoyed another one had we lingered, but since it was extremely loud in there, lingering was not an option. If you are going out for an evening to catch up with friends, having a conversation will prove to be difficult. Tables are close together and the ceilings are high, which makes for a noisy dining environment. Hanging decorative sound absorbing panels might help. In spite of the noise level, the unique atmosphere is definitely worth the visit. The service was extremely slow, so be prepared for a leisurely stay. Overall, food was tasty and the atmosphere is unique. With a few minor adjustments, it could be a really enjoyable restaurant...

RESERVING VIA EMAIL COMES WITH NO RESPONSE AFTE WEEKS OF ATTEMPT

I have given you weeks and 4 chances before I decided to right this review. Your reservation is very disappointing. We have a special dinner for 9people for Aug 31st, it is so special that we chose your restaurant to host our dinner with our guests. Made it a point to follow your policy to reserve via online back in 4 week of July 2025. Too early right? you wasted our time with no hope of you responding back to your customers??

1 week after email reservation request - called your resto to follow up. I was told by the staff that a reservation of 9 should be via email, i respectfully said, I know, just following up because no one responded back to my email. i even told her, i dont want this escalated, i just need a reply, " its just the right thing to do" staff said theyll forward the message to the reservation manager. No reply back,

Called back again a few days after - Lady named Mo got my details, she apologized and asssured me that i will get a response to the reservation manager because she will forward my details and concern to the manager herself. NONE.

Called back again a few days after. SAME

Called back again last night - Mo again answereds, provided me the same Spiel, reassuring, matter of fact.. apologized and told me that I will get a call back for sure! NO call back!!

You dont want our business? FINE!

Owners of James pumphouse, if your reservation manager is an employee, Fire that irresposible person! Weak link in...

We went to go have dinner at this establishment. It has a very trendy feel to it, not overall a big location but the the atmosphere has very nice, modern flash with a touch of old-fashion appeal. This location used to be a pumphouse for the city and all the old pipes and mechanics are featured in the middle of this restaurant. The parking is a bit difficult as this is local, as you are parking on city streets. Free after 530pm.

Started off with a Ceaser and it was well made.

We were also served a jug of water which was room temperature.

We ordered the Fish and chips ( Cod was the only choice for the fish) The fish was cooked very good. It had a nice crunch and the fish was pretty light on the inside. The tartar sauce was very tasty. It came with curly fries which were nothing fancy, mashed peas were also served with the dish.

Twice fried chicken(small plate),we had them with the sweet & spicy sauce actually more sweet than spicy much like sweet chili sauce. The chicken was ok they were basically boneless chicken bites

Braised beef tacos, really hit the mark, very tasty and not too spicy

Mezze tray, this was served with naan bread, olive & tomato mixture, humus and tzatziki sauce, cucumber and whipped feta cheese. It was very tasty as well.

Our server was very polite and we had no issues at all.

The price for our meal & drinks was resonable for today's standards. Would recommend and will be return...

Went to eat here back in December for a birthday brunch and haven’t had the chance to review and just going off from what I can remember but let me tell you this is probably one of Winnipeg’s greatest gems and A MUST-VISIT. The hostess was really nice and accommodating, I always expect restaurants like this to have snobby employees lol but James Avenue Pumphouse is different! I wish I can remember their names but they sat my partner and I at a lovely table with a nice view, my partner asked for a sample of a couple of craft beers before he ordered and they knew the drinks menu very well! The menu for entrees was appealing and even had some history about the building. Waited for awhile for the food but my partner and I were too busy soaking up the view and truly enjoyed the environment of the restaurant. I ordered a poke bowl and partner ordered a hamburger w/ DELICIOUS fries that I mooched off from. The food is 9/10 for me only because I would love to try other items on the menu but they were delicious, every bite was umami filled. Restaurant vibe during lunch hours is a 10/10. Will check it out with friends for dinner in March (the most available reservation available for me to book). So BOOK NOW!
