Got to the restaurant shortly after 12pm. The server didn’t say hi or anything, just told me to "pick a table." I placed and confirmed my order on the tablet at 12:12pm. By 12:41pm, we still hadn’t gotten our food, so I told the server we’d need it to-go. I also mentioned that she had served people who came in after us and that’s when she snapped. Her tone totally changed and she wouldn’t let me finish speaking. She kept saying they were a reservation, but the table I was talking about was actually someone I knew, sitting next to the reserved group. They arrived after us and got their food before us.
When I clarified that I wasn’t talking about the reservation, she then said the other table’s order was “simpler.” Funny enough, while we were still waiting for our food to be packed, I went over to say bye to my acquaintance and turns out, they ordered bento boxes just like we did! So that excuse didn’t hold up.
We finally got our takeout bags at 12:52pm. To be fair, the server did apologize but it felt like she was only sorry for snapping, not for forgetting about us in the first place. I used to be a regular here and always recommended this place to others, but after my last few dine-ins, especially today, I’m honestly done. I can get better service, bigger portions, and better value elsewhere. I’m beyond frustrated that I paid over $38 just to be ignored and dismissed. P.s. One of our orders was wrong.
Also when I called the restaurant to confirm my order, I also left my phone number for the owner to call me. I’m disappointed I never got the chance to explain that while I genuinely enjoy their food, I really don’t appreciate the service and that they should consider hiring someone who isn't miserable on the job. I get salmon and tuna maki, dynamite roll (theirs is REALLY tasty), cucumber roll, and I’ve ordered their tempura sweet potato (really really good, and I’m not even a sweet potato fan, but I read it would help with inflammation - and it did help). The food is fast and fresh, really reasonably priced, and they even have the good soy sauce. My only wish is that they offered beverages. You can tell the food is made with care. Good rice too! Highly recommend. *update 3/23/24)- we ordered delivery last night and my “spider roll” I splurged on because I had a crab craving was only pollock. The dynamite roll was rotten. The shrimp was rotten. I’ve never been into rotten shrimp before. All your senses know immediately when it is not OK to eat. I bit into it and immediately the flavour that entered my mouth was rancid. I took a couple of slow, choose and immediately sped everything out. I had to rinse my mouth out with vodka to get the taste to go away.. I’m very disappointed that the restaurant didn’t contact us to let us know that the role I ordered wasn’t available and I don’t understand how they were able to cook something and not smell that there was an issue with it. Even the colour of the cooked shrimp was weird. The rice was VERY dry and hard to swallow for the rolls I could eat. It was a special treat for us so I’m sad and disappointed. Rude and disrepctful owner.
I ordered cheese pork cutlets to go, the menu online said cheese inside of pork cutlet, which I had before. When I opened it at home, it was just regular pork cutlet with cheese on top. Called to simply ask, neither to complain nor to ask for refund or anything, but just to ask whether I had misplaced the order. Apparently it had changed awhile ago for the cheese to be a simple topping, not stuffed.
The server went to talk to the male owner. I guess I was on speaker phone, and I could hear them - when the server went to talk to the owner, he exploded with attitude on the poor server. The server literally had told the owner that the customer had a different expectation cuz she didn't know the menu had changed.
The owner got angry, I guess cuz I didn't know their menu had changed internally, and told the server to go and tell the customer to eff off and get lost.
I speak Korean, and I could understand every word, every annoyance and disrespect his voice carried.
I was at a loss for words and hung up.
Food was mediocre at best. I had a bite of it before I called. Cold and mushy after fifteen minute drive.
After the phone call, to the garbage.
There are better Korean Restaurants in this city, better places to spend your money to support small businesses. At this place, your money will only be feeding a greedy man who does not respect his customers.
