I resisted giving Popeyes a go for the longest time simply because of the fact that its first location in Seasons of Tuxedo here is hell to get to if you don't already live close by, and the area itself is generally very unfriendly to pedestrians and Transit users. But when word hit the street that this one on Portage had opened, I had to come back across the Red to finally try it. And I can definitely say that I was not one bit disappointed! Ordering was efficient and painless. You'll notice lots of kitchen workers, which is seriously great to see as even a little bit after mid-day on a Saturday, the place is plenty busy with a lot of volume to handle. Menu pricing is very competitive with other chains, you'll get very tasty food in return to the point where it's probably a top contender for value for money. The interior generally looks nice, it has a fair bit more seats compared to most competitor locations, and they have power outlets and USB ports (type A) for giving your phone a quick charge, plus some TVs. While I might not be back to this particular Popeyes often, it's given me a great reason to look forward to the two locations that will be opening east of the Red, hopefully...
Read moreAfter our terrible experience at Popeyes on Sterling Lyon, we were offered a gift certificate by the management and decided to use it at a different location since we were afraid the same issues were going to arise. I AM SO HAPPY WE DID THIS.
This location on Portage Avenue is night and day compared to the Sterling Lyon location. The staff at this location is knowledgeable of the menu, extremely helpful and friendly. They didn’t cut us off while we were ordering, they answered our questions promptly, they got our food out in a timely manner and best of all, our order was 100% accurate.
There must be something wrong with the management and staff at the Sterling Lyon location because the explicit and undeniable difference in service between the Sterling Lyon location and this location shows that the franchise owners of Popeyes are trying their best to uphold good customer service and deliver great experiences.
Sterling Lyon needs a revamp in training and maybe if that can’t fix it, a whole new staff.
Portage Location should be an example to which other locations look up to.
I am so glad we went...
Read moreFirst time ordering Popeye's chicken and overall we were not disappointed. We tried to sample a few things so ordered chicken, chicken strips, and their famous chicken sandwich. None of us can handle spicy so everything we ordered was mild. For sides we tried coleslaw, fries, onion rings and mac&cheese. Two of our meals came with biscuits. We all loved the juicy, crispy chicken (in both the chicken pieces and the strips). The only thing that would have made the chicken strips better is honey dill sauce. It would be nice if they took note of this Manitoba preference for dipping sauce. The chicken sandwich was a beast - a huge crispy fillet, but also a hit. The sides were all okay, but nothing to get too excited over. We all agreed to skip the mac&cheese next time. The biscuits were a nice novelty, flaky and buttery. The drive thru was quick and the staff friendly. Thanks for the drink upgrade! We will definitely be ordering...
