I haven’t made it down there yet, but I’ve ordered numerous times on Uber Eats. The first word I want to say is delicious!!! They showed up on my feed on FB, and I read that they had hamburger soup. Oh my gosh. My mom, who passed away five and a half years ago, used to make it. I’ve tried to recreate it but I can’t. So I gave them a try. Oh my good lord. The first taste brought me back to my childhood and youth. It felt like a nice big hug from my mom. Simply amazing. I had to call them though because they forgot my fry bread. I don’t know who I spoke with but it felt like talking to an old friend. He gave me extra fry bread next time I ordered my soup and even a special treat. When we were talking I told him about my mom and he offered his condolences and was genuinely grateful that I called. He told me the special ingredient was love. And I believe that many places are missing just that. Shelly’s is a taste of home. Shelly’s is the business you want to not only succeed, but be a city staple for decades to come. I personally can’t get enough. I will be a regular for life. Even though it’s far, I need to get down there to get those bannock buns pants! It’s on my todo list for sure!
Thank you Shelly’s! And happy first birthday!
UPDATE: Tried the pizza today! Bannock pizza is the thing in my life I’ve been missing!!...
Read moreWe visited Shelly's Bistro on a friend’s recommendation to try their bannock, and it was a satisfying experience that fulfilled my curiosity about this traditional treat. I loved that my first taste of bannock was here, and even my family enjoyed the baked bannock we brought home. It was just the two of us visiting on a weekday lunch. The bistro itself has a modest, no-frills setup with a few tables—more practical than cozy but suitable for a quick meal. The staff was very friendly and attentive, making us feel welcomed from the moment we arrived.
We ordered the bannock pizza, bannock taco, chicken fried rice, and bannock bites with blueberry jam. The bannock pizza was amazing, with a unique crust that really stood out. We actually received two orders of the pizza (four slices in total), even though we only ordered one, but we decided to take it to go since we’d already paid (2ordered) and didn’t want it to go to waste. The bannock taco was filling and delicious, with fresh toppings and salsa on the side that complemented the flavors well. The chicken fried rice was okay, with a generous portion—nothing particularly memorable but satisfying enough. The bannock bites were a fun treat, letting us experience the classic bannock taste, and the blueberry jam was unique with its bittersweet and slightly...
Read moreOf the many pizza restaurants I've tried in Winnipeg, this is my favorite one, and we've only ordered from there yesterday first time. Forget about Pizza Hut, Dominos or even Santa Lucia. You'll want to get this place a crown.
We got the Pizza Meal Deal, which offers a pizza of your own choice, boneless ribs with a sauce of your preference, fries with optional gravy, and a pasta salad.
We got a North Ender. It is absolutely crammed with ham, beef, cheese, peppers, sauce and more. The crust is crunchy, kind of like a cracker, but in a good and satisfying way. Even the toppings are crunchy and savory, it rules.
The boneless ribs were the best ribs I ever shoved into my face, boneless or not. The Honey Ginger sauce we ordered for them had us shouting like donkeys!
The fries are fresh-cooked the right way, and are not packed with too much grease like most places do. Even with the fries being plain, they're just good on their own, which is really something.
The pasta salad was plain, but it had a good flavor. Besides, I like simplicity on a salad.
So, feel like pizza and want to try something different? This place is your best answer.
Also, their prices are WAY better than Santa Lucia's. The pizza meal...
