I am a regular at Sushi Ya and have typically enjoyed my experiences in the past. However, a friend and I planned to go to Sushi Ya to celebrate my birthday. The website states the restaurant closes at 9, and the neon sign on the door stated the same. We arrived at 7:50 pm and entered the restaurant, only to be turned away by a waitress saying that they were closed. I was incredibly upset and disappointed. The time a restaurant is opened and closed should be the same as what is stated on the doors of the restaurant or on their personally owned website. Very unprofessional and I will find another establishment to get my weekly sushi.
EDIT: 6 Months later and the same issue persists. Their takeout menu states their hours on Sundays are 4pm to 9pm, with last call 30 mins before closing time. I called at 7:15 pm to place an order and was met with a busy signal. Called back and got voice-mail, stating that their Sunday hours are until 8pm. Why is that not on their takeout menus and their door? Why have conflicting hours on easily printed takeout menus? Even with last call I should've been able to place an order. I'm not sure if this issue is due to staff closing earlier than they should or lack of business accumen...
Read moreIf you want to truly have an exceptional sushi eating experience then you need to try the daily specials here. Their regular menu is already stellar on its own but their daily specials definitely stand out. For an added bonus ask the chef to surprise you with something off the menu and be prepared to go on an adventure.
From the daily specials the Aburi (torched) sushi is so good it melts in your mouth especially the salmon. The New Style Sashimi is a true delight as you get different finely sliced sushi laid out in a circular fashion. It is tempting to finish the whole plate on your own although its big enough to share.
The Mango Prawns are different from other venues as the tempura batter is thinner but still stays crispy and moist. The Lion King sushi roll is also really yummy. You taste the smokiness of the tempura salmon right away but its the creamy sesame sauce that gets you hooked for more.
We always look forward eating here as their staff are always friendly and accommodating. The chefs here always have a smile when you come in, and the food here speaks for itself. Definitely worth the...
Read moreDefinitely my favourite sushi place now! as soon as we went inside, everyone was so nice and we got a freshly cleaned table to sit at. The waitress was so nice and knowledgeable about the menu. The food itself was really good! unique combinations in sushi that was really yummy and cool! We got quite a few different platters including the Danzzu-Danzzu, TNT, Danny’s, and Dwight’s sushi and the beef teriyaki entree. They were all so good and well made. We even ordered take out afterwards to bring back for our family that stayed home. All of that came out to a very reasonable price which is always great. Further, the chef’s were so nice and awesome - we got some miso soup and they let us try some new salmon sushi they had made on the house. We loved it!! Overall, the place is great, the people are great, and the food is great! Only downside is the parking. We had a...
