What a lovely, but very small, hidden gem. The Roost is located upstairs from what also looked like a tasty milkshake shop and is quite small. When I called to make a reservation (only taken between 5-7pm) the staff member told me they only have 18 seats so it is very "cozy". There were 3 of us and we ended up sitting at the bar, which was actually just fine for us. Since the Roost is renounced for their house cocktails, it was actually quite entertaining to be able to watch the bartender make the cocktails, see the different glasses and cups they had for each drink and just get to know the staff more. With that said, the Roost's cocktail menu is so fun and there were so many choices, including mocktails, that it was actually difficult to choose drinks. I think in total we tried maybe 5 of them and they were all phenomenal. For food, we ordered a couple of different things. We had the vegan cheese platter - oh yeah, this place has a large vegan/vegetarian friendly menu - some baos or steamed buns and the scallop risotto. I want to say my favorite were actually the steamed buns - nice and fluffy and warm and full of flavor. This place was such a nice little treat during our time in Winnipeg and I would imagine that, if I lived in Winnipeg, it would quickly become one of my go to places for a date or a night out with a friend. Worth the visit if you're...

I was really curious about The Roost after seeing it listed as #39 in "Canada's 50 Best Bars." So, while visiting MB,Canada, I knew I had to Check It Out.

Luckily, we found a vacant parking spot almost directly across from The Roost’s entrance, like it was waiting just for us—haha. The warm welcome continued inside, where the server and bartender smiled at every guest as they passed by, adding to the friendly vibe.

We decided to go just before sunset to really experience the chill atmosphere. The timing was perfect, with the cozy patio and evening vibe setting the mood.

The drinks were amazing! Even though we didn’t try any cocktails, the mocktails we had—Pink Moon and Ginger Rogers—were extremely good. They had a homemade, creative twist that made them stand out. And the prices were reasonable—less than 10 CAD each for the mocktails.

For food, we tried the pork buns and the market veggies (a delicious potato salad). Note that there are vegan-friendly (VF) options.

We came to The Roost just to relax and soak in the ambiance, and it didn’t disappoint. Even with the chill in the air, the patio was a great spot to unwind before winter...

We recently went here and while we usually enjoy our time there, we had a disappointing experience during our latest visit.

It started raining unexpectedly while we were enjoying our drinks outside, so we stepped inside for just a couple of minutes to avoid getting soaked. We intended to go back out and finish our drinks once the rain stopped. However, almost immediately, a staff member came over and asked us to pay and leave because, according to them, we weren't allowed to stand inside the bar.

I felt this was handled quite poorly. It seemed inconsiderate, especially since we were only inside for a moment to escape the rain. We weren’t planning to linger or disrupt anyone. The abrupt way we were asked to leave felt unwelcoming and unprofessional.

I understand that there are rules to follow, but a bit more understanding and better communication would go a long way. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and I hope the management will consider this feedback to improve how they handle such situations in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Incident happened on June 7th at...
