We were a party of 8 out on Feb 18 for a birthday dinner on the first Friday of full restaurant in Peson dining in Manitoba. Initially the service and apps were outstanding.
We ordered the garlic cheese toast, baked brie and crispy fried cauliflower as apps for the table to share The baked brie was especially appreciated and our meal was off to a good start.
As time went on we could see the restaurant was straining in service which was understandable for the situation coming out of COVID restrictions.
When we ordered mains 5 chose a steak option and 3 got other meals and this is where it was a much less than enjoyable experience. I and two of my daughters got sirloin. Two were ordered medium and one medium well. All were significantly underdone the med-well was medium ay best and the two medium were near blue. We sent them back to the kitchen.
My wife ordered a New York and it was cooked properly but tough and chewy - not at all restaurant quality that she chose not to send back because of all the orders already going back.
The manger came over later and said he would comp the apps, the three steak meals and dessert for the whole table in light of the brihday celebration and the issues where many could not eat together.
Our table all ordered desserts based on this and enjoyed our desserts. However, when we got the bill not all desserts or apps were comped and none of the meals were.
Rather than make an issue we paid the bill but it did leave a sour note at the end of a good evening. The Keg prides and prices itself as a destination for celebration, quality food in a quality environment.
Undersanding the situation we could easily forgive the kinks of returning to full service and even with the kitchen getting some things wrong. But a steakhouse should have quality steak - their main feature and that did NOT happen. That was compounded with a broken promise we never asked for. We didn't ask to be offered meals comped, we were focused on the celebration. Having that offered and not followed through fully didn't speak to quality service to us. For those reasons, I can't rate this meal or The Keg St. James higher for this review
UPDATE:. The keg asked me to submit this review to their customer service email. I did thay the very next day - 4 weeks later still NO RESPONSE. To me this compounds the...
Read moreMy significant other and I went there for Valentine’s Day. We had a reservation for 10 pm. We arrived there around 9:40 and checked in with the staff. We were fine with waiting since we did get there early. But we were then informed that they were running 15 minutes behind which was still understandable since it was a busy evening. We ended up getting seated closer to 10:30. This was frustrating because what is the point of reservation? I understand stand that it’s busy and things happen but you would think an established restaurant with multiple locations would be better prepared for that. Totally unacceptable. None of the staff even seemed to acknowledge that aside from the “15 minute” wait warning which was factually closer to 30. We didn’t get any apologies or anything. This is especially frustrating because the waiting area was PACKED. Most of us were forced to wait in a freezing cold room where people came in and out of. Not to mention that the seating in the restaurant felt very cramped as they even made up makeshift booths by adding dividers on the table of a bigger booth so they can seat more people. It just felt like they tried to make as much money as they could by fitting a bunch of people they could barely accommodate. The quality of service went down because of this and it took out the intimate dinner feeling most of us had hoped for. We were seated in the middle of the room and I had to watch how I got up because if I pulled back too much, my chair would hit the person behind me. It’s just inconsiderate for them to give a service this way and no one seemed to even say anything. The evening service was ran very poorly. Like I said, some delays are understandable but knowing that it’s because of poor planning, money grab, and combined with inconsiderate staff. It wasn’t worth the money. The only person that was good was our server as he was very kind and funny. Food was good, not sure if it’s because we were just trying to eat since we’ve waited for so long or if it was actually good. Nothing special. Wouldn’t really try again. We don't see how this is any better than cheaper...
Read moreOctober 26, 2020 My friend had made a reservation for his girl-friends birthday dinner with a total of 5 people for 8 p.m. Server named Teagan was very polite and knowledgeable at the start of the night. One round of drinks were ordered and were being enjoyed at our table. Our server had come to the table ( 8:47p.m) to take our food order and to tell us they are doing last call. When asked why last call was being taken so early, the server had said it was the managers decision. We thought it was a little weird but not the end of the world. We had finished eating our food by 9:15 at which the server had come and asked us if we wanted any desert ( in which we said yes) and to ask us how the bills were being divided up. At this point we were starting to feel that we were being rushed out. The deserts were ordered and the server came with a debit/credit machine to the table and wanted me to pay without us even receiving/eating the desert. So at this point is where I had enough and had mentioned to the server that I have never felt so rushed out of an establishment before. The server had apologized and once again stated it was the managers decision and at this point i had asked her to get the manager for me. Manager had come to the table and asked us how we were doing, we replied we were doing well but could be better. We explained to the manager the we heard from our server that it was her decision in wanting to do last call and close earlier. I had told the manager that we felt super rushed out of the establishment and when the debit and credit machine was brought in front of our faces is when we had to speak up. The managers reply was “ it is a slow Monday and we only have 5 people inside in which it is costing us money instead of making money” I had told the manager that she should of let her birthday reservations know a head of time that she might be closing the establishment earlier if it was a “slow Monday”. In the end the Manager finished off with saying it was her decision and that she was sorry. Super confrontational and not understanding. Would Not recommend this place stick with...
