I don't exactly care for their new ordering system. It requires the use of your cell phone to place an order. How do you expect people to tip before knowing the service? I visited with my wife and infant. The place has very poor ventilation, and the fryer smoke constantly filled the dining area to the point where I was coughing and eyes were burning. Remember how I said you ordered on your cell? How can I order a glass of water when I'm dying from smoke inhalation?! I felt bad for my little one, and ended up going for a quick walk out in the cold to let him get some fresh air. It's a shame because the food is really good. I had the schnitzel burger and fries. Another downside to Elke's is that they lack variety for those who don't eat pork. No chicken schnitzel, or vegetarian options. We ordered the Buttercream cake, and was told the last slice was already sold. They replaced it with a peach cobbler, which tasted flavorless and doughy. Was very disappointed with dessert after a good schnitzel. Waited approx 45 minutes after ordering until food arrived. Small dining area. Reservations recommended for dinner service. Street parking only. Bring an oxygen tank if you plan on eating here, the schnitzels are tasty, and the coffee is from a proper espresso machine. If my review helps, please leave me a...
Read moreMy daughter absolutely loves this place but she had only had takeout before I arrived.
We stayed at the tables out front and I was more than surprised to find the staff do not come and visit your table to take your order or even greet you. They only accept orders through an app which didn't work for us so we had to walk inside to talk to the staff who were not thrilled to see us.
You can see in the photos I have attached that they go so far as to formally request that you clear your own table.
I noted that one potential customer arrived and sat at one table for 3 or 4 minutes before moving to another table for 3 or 4 minutes and then he just got up and left presumably because no one came out to ask him what he wanted or provide even water.
The experience definitely left something to be desired but the locals seem to love it including my daughter.
Personally I found the food to be fine but nothing to rave about.
In total I think this place is a solid 3 out of five meaning that it is just fine if you want to...
Read moreA traveller of Asian descent told the restaurant owner that he was born in Australia. The restaurant owner said, “oh, I wonder why”. Food is mediocre, yet super expensive: more than what it would cost in a big city. The fish looks big when it comes on the table, but most of it is just air and hollow oily batter. The owner will remind you that the bill does not include tips and that you should tip 15% percent. I suggest prepare cash or coins for tips. The waitress appeared to be in a dreamy state. We had to ask repeatedly for water, but there were only two other tables who were already eating. We never got any water until the food was already on the table. Not sure if water costed us any money like the other comment says. Heavy smoke in the entire restaurant. You will come into a smokey restaurant and leave smelling like cooking. Not pleasant. My eyes are very sensitive, and they were irritated the whole time while I...
