Bom Gosto — Restaurant in São Vicente

One has to be careful when it is time to pay the bill out here. There is nothing really great to comment about this restaurant, however they will pull a fast one on you in the bill.

We were charged an amount equal to nearly 15% extra as a tax for music. All other restaurants on the island clearly display if they charge this tax, on boards and in the menu. Unfortunately, this restaurant sneaks it into the bill with no prior notice or explanation.

They charge an additional fee for payments by international debit cards like those of Revolut and N26. Other restaurants we visited on the island do not charhe this additional fee. The additional fee only applies to payments using credit cards. It felt like they were keen on having payments in "cash"

Since we felt we were being ripped off, we asked for a bill, and they outrightly refused to provide one. They insisted that we send them an email requesting for a bill !!

The most unpleasant aspect of the entire interaction was that, the lady who seemed to be the person in charge, got verbally aggressive and started raising her voice, and playing the "this is how it works in Cabo Verde" card.

I do not recommend this restaurant to any traveller.

Coincidentally, the locals to whom we related this story said that this isn't the first time they have heard of these complaints at...

What a shame. I would really recommend that you avoid this place. The food is good and the live music is excellent but the owner is a deeply dishonest and unpleasant woman. After a pleasant evening, I came to pay my bill and was hit with unexpected extra charges for wanting to use a card - something I have never seen in any country ever before. The owner became extremely aggressive and unpleasant when I challenged these charges; something her staff, who were extremely apologetic, have clearly seen happen many times before. What should have been a pleasant evening ended in acrimony as the owner ripped me off, laughed at me and stood in the doorway to block my path on exit in order to try and intimate me. She is clearly well used to ripping off visitors to her city, so I post this review to warn others to KEEP WELL CLEAR of this...

I give two stars instead of one because the staff was sympathetic, but this is not a good place to eat. It was the worst place where we had food in Mindelo. Waited almost two hours, and food was terrible and the portions were ridiculous. I order the grilled squid. The plate had 4 small pieces of baked potatoe, one slice of tomato, some thin strings of vegetables and a very tiny tasteless and almost burned squid. Another minus point: at the end, they were charging more money for the wine, than that what was announced initially by the waiter. They apologized, and corrected the bill. Could have been a honest mistake, but still, not...
