MANSA MARINA HOTEL — Hotel in São Vicente

I arrived and was immediately subjected to rude looks by the staff, as if I did not belong there. And this is the third time I have had this experience here across three years. I have not been back in over a year for this specific reason. And after asking to speak to the manager, I notice it is their 3rd in as many years - a fact that speaks volumes.||||But, I digress...||||So, I sat myself and waited for more than an hour before I demanded to get at least a menu TO order. And, as is typical on THIS island, Mindelo, they chase after white patrons before any BLACK tourists get any assistance, yet the white tourists in Cape Verde get treated as if they are royalty. As a Black man here in a country that is 99% Black, you are ignored time and time again if a white person is anywhere near. ||||How unsettling and upsetting that is to experience!||||Now, I understand why they do it, but for them to assume I am Black and poor makes this a country that I cannot suggest to my American friends to visit because they would revolt at the service by these Black people here. ||After waiting an hour, I finally stopped a server and gave him an EARFUL of why I do not come here, asked to speak to management and/or the owner to relay this VERY important message. Even more important considering the owner is a Black African man. ||||It is borderline criminal and sad and disheartening all at once. ||||New policies need to be put into place and the mindset of the STAFF changed immediately. ||||This country is not for just white tourists coming here. Disgrace to call this place bar or restaurant, after waiting more than 2 hours for one club sandwich waiter bring wrong meal, and started arguing that ,this is normal and we should be happy we got anything even wrong food. There is so many better places in Mindelo to eat with better views and specialy service, table next to is was waiting more than hour to order drinks while 5 waiters talk together and ignore guest... avoid at all costs so they can start appriciate customers what already overpay for quality of food. We visit this place 2 times holing it was just a bad day, but no, staff avoids and hide from customers, and rather spends time on phone or talking. Food is starting to be served when staf is in mood to do that and you get what they want,not what you ordered. Next to them is really nice floating bar with amazing food and service what i recomend to visit...avoid...

Dinner top, Lunch Flop - wir sind Abends spontan zum Abendessen gekommen und haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Der Kellner war aufmerksam, freundlich und hat zum Beispiel extra das Essen fürs (ausgehungerte 😉) Kind sofort fertig gemacht. Das Essen war zudem richtig lecker und der empfohlene Weißwein ebenfalls. Die Location ist so schön und trotzdem zentral. Sehr ruhig und die Geräuschkulisse der Straße ausgeblendet - was für ein gelungener Abend dachten wir, lass uns doch morgen tagsüber wiederkommen!

Am nächsten Tag kann man als Gast einfach 600$00 p.P. Bezahlen und den Tag am Pool verbringen. Genau dort fing das Chaos an. Kaffee und Snack Bestellungen wurden vergessen (wir reden hier nicht von alles läuft eh langsam und entspannt, sondern tatsächlich vergessen). Beim Mittagessen Chaos auch an Nachbartisch bemerkt, hätte uns eine Warnung sein sollen. Bei uns mehrfach nach den bestellten Getränken gefragt. Das Essen knapp 40 Minuten (auch hier nix Gelassenheit und Gemütlichkeit, sondern einfach zu lang für zwei Currys gewartet - es war lediglich ein weiterer Tisch der Essen bestellt hatte - die Getränke waren als ich meinen Teller leer hatte, immer noch nicht da! Als ich abbestellen wollte, hieß es gibt einen Problem mit dem Mixer (wollten einen Melonensaft) hätte es aber jetzt gelöst. Es kam dann auch wieder Minuten später ein lauwarmer Saft, der so wässrig war, dass es sich sicher nicht gelohnt hat, solange drauf zu warten.

Auf die Frage nach Eiswürfel, sagte man mir, diese wären gerade leer. Es gingen aber Alkoholflaschen an Pool-Tischen raus mit Gläser voller Eiswürfel (?) wahrscheinlich hab ich „genervt“ vom häufigen nach Essen und Getränken fragen, aber das ist ein persönliches Empfinden.

Das alles hat alles so vermiest, dass wir bezahlt haben und gegangen sind.

Der Pool ist übrigens sauber und sehr schön, ruhig und entspannt. Schatten gab es unter den Holzboxen, Liegen haben funktioniert, Matten waren leicht in die Jahre gekommen.
