I don't recommend this place (restaurant) at all. Especially if you get a woman named Vany (with the tattoos) Very rude, no customer service if you are a woman. She seems to only treat the men nice. If men ask her to change something, she will gladly do it with a smile. If a woman asks her something, she will flat out say, I can do it, but I won't. They (the customer) just have to deal with it. Very strange. Maybe she has her own issues, but because of this reason I can't give a positive review. Vany seems to let her ego (among other things) get in the way. Got stared down from the moment I walked in the place happy. Maybe me being happy irritated her demons. Who knows. But I didn't feel welcome and she was standing outside, so if I were the manager, I would not let her welcome guests in. The only server that always has a positive attitude is Eric. But even he can't make up for that troubled woman named Vany.
Edit: seeing how the owner doesn't understand that your servers represent the place and doesn't understand what the issue is I rest my case. The two cannot be separated....business 101. The fact that my experience is not treated seriously and is being invalidated says a lot. Different people get different experiences if you truly read what I wrote.. But don't take my word for it. Look at the other reviews.... apparently not everyone loves her. She indeed left an impression on me. A bad one.... ;)
But you want another reason not to go to this place? When they say there is no meat in a dish and you ask three times to be sure, there still will be meat in the dish. And this has nothing to do with a server. Purely the restaurant. So....there. reason number two. And you will still have to pay even if you didn't eat it. Thank you for your well wishes. I will continue...
Read moreI am sorry, but we really did not like the way the waiter approached us.
I specified I am celiac, so I have to be very sure that the waiter understands everything, especially here as it’s not a common occurrence.
While trying to be sure the French fries where fried separately, I got jokingly light answers and superficial information. I’m all in to have a good and funny/entertaining waiter, but an allergy has to be treated with precise information and seriousness.
Skipping over this, we had a change of plans and decided to swap the lobster for another plate. We asked for the change about 3/4 minutes after ordering, maybe even less.
30 or so minutes later, a lobster arrives and we are as confused as the waitress. Once more, we have to face the same waiter, this time coming up to us and accusing us of being wrong and somehow adding more food to an order when we felt the lobster was too much for us. The client can be mistaken, but using logic, one can understand there was a miscommunication between the waiters and the kitchen. This can be supported by the fact we asked for water many times, we had to ask for salt 2 times (had to get it myself) and other similar experiences. The waiters have simply to many tables to attend.
The food was good, fresh and delicious.
I know the restaurant will answer to this review as it’s active on google maps, so please refrain from accusing us once more, I prefer to not receive an answer.
Edit: “You “have” to answer by again removing any doubt that this is not professional. Regarding the communication for the gluten free diet: it’s a serious thing and it has to be treated as such. I can’t eat with short and vague answers, I need a yes or a no,...
Read moreCasa Café Mindelo guesthouse is a three-story Portuguese colonial style house located right in the center of Mindelo, S. Vicente, Cabo Verde.||The rooms are cozy and very clean and, although simple, you will find all the comfort that you need, including air-conditioned which is necessary, given the climate.||Two very experienced and good professionals run the house and the staff is local, very friendly and helpful. ||The food is great and cooked with local fresh products. If you drop by for a meal do not forget to try the “carrasco” (similar to a lobster), the lobster or any of the fish suggestions. You can also try the “ponche”, a local drink made out of “grogue” (an alcoholic drink similar to rum) which is, for sure, one of the best you can find in Mindelo. There will be live music for you every evening.||The house as security and a guard keeps you safe at all times, so you can sit outside and enjoy the evening and your “ponche”. (just wait a bit before the last sip and let the little lemon slice work its magic).||From there you can just go up, before going to sleep, take advantage of the terrace, and let the tropical feeling of the place come to you.||“Casa Café Mindelo” is most probably your best accommodation and food option in Mindelo but do not forget to book...
