I thought this restaurant is very far from town centre because I read somewhere that pickup can actually be arranged from the hotel to the restaurant, but I realized it is just a stone's throw away from Ahu Riata and its probably just a kilometer or less walk from the main street. Came here for lunch but it was funny that most of the items in the lunch menu were not available, so we chose from what was available as well as from the main menu. The lunch menu was probably cheaper and more worth it, not sure if the portion was smaller. The Papas Tataku was rather big just by looking at the portion of the fries. Also ordered the ceviche from the main menu, its weird they don't have ceviche available in the lunch menu but in the main menu, so does that mean they are not interested in selling at a cheaper price for a smaller portion? Anyway the ceviche portion was bigger than I expected. I thought by putting them into a shell the portion might be small but actually the whole shell was just filled with ceviche. I was actually quite full after finishing the ceviche. Food was pretty good I must say, and enjoyed it quite a lot. The view from the restaurant is quite scenic too I guess the outdoor tables are very popular. I recommend this as one of the restaurants to visit in Rapa Nui. I tried asking the hotel to call the restaurant for transport and reservation. Tried calling 2 days for dinner but then was later told they don't serve dinner anymore and they...
Read moreHailed as a 'hidden' local spot with the best seafood around, Tataku Vave restaurant is located near the airport on the west side right by the ocean with fantastic views. It was cloudy the day I went, but I imagine sunsets are amazing here. Most of the tables are on a covered patio, some are not covered, and a few are inside. The seating does look limited - maybe 70 or so seats and the tables and chairs appear to be wooden (and a tad uncomfortable, but don't not come because of this!) I don't eat seafood (my loss because they had pages of fresh fish, lobster, octopus, etc), but there were a few options including beef and pasta, however, I chose the fried chicken with mashed potatoes. It was very generously portioned and delicious. The fried chicken was lightly breaded, almost like fish & chips in North America. The staff was friendly, efficient, and accommodated my lack of Spanish superbly. The menus also have English descriptions which I appreciated. Having a great meal while watching the waves crash against the lava rocks was perfect for...
Read moreWe loved this place! The view is stunning, the owner is super nice, his family were here too just hanging out and making it feel like you're visiting their home but with a very good service and attention! The food was awesome, we had ceviche and a grilled tuna - everything was cooked quickly and perfectly delicious. As for the drinks they have a menu with cocktails etc but you can also drink tea, coffee or water for free! In our case the weather was cold and rainy so the hot tea was just the perfect solution. Prices here are cheaper than in some restaurants of the same class in Santiago! Worth...
