AVOID THIS RESTAURANT unless you've eaten beforehand and are happy to WAIT UP TO 85 MINUTES to be served any food!
After a wonderful day seeing the moais of Easter Island, I visited this restaurant recommended by my hostel for tuna steak. I happily walked 30 minutes to get there. Unfortunately they were full so I said that we would come back in 30 mins.
We returned 30 minutes later, though, along with another two people behind us, who were practically IGNORED BY THE WAITRESSES who looked rushed off their feet. Our hostel owner happened to be there and told us to sit down...so we took it upon ourselves to move the seats so that we could sit on a table that had not been cleaned yet.
Eventually, we were greeted with menus... though we had to WAIT ANOTHER 30 MINUTES before we could place an order - RIDICULOUS - and this was only because we joked with our hostel owner that "I think they need a hand in there"
We placed our order and had to WAIT 15 MINUTES before we received our pisco sours - TERRIBLE! We then waited another 10 minutes before we received a tuna steak with mash potatoes and pasta neptune.
The 25-minute wait for food would have been acceptable if that was communicated to us as I appreciate that the food is made to order. The wait at the start to be seated and to take our order and to recieving our drinks are TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!
The tuna steak was nice, though the pasta neptune
The only thing we didn't have to wait for was the bill. We were not even offered dessert! PATHETIC!
Worst still, upon querying the above, the waitress went and got the owner who flatly denied anything regarding the service and simply said the food is gourmet, so you have to wait for it. ARROGANT AND DISGRACEFUL! I have eaten everywhere from street food to fine dining and have never had to wait so long for food in combination which such poor service - SHOCKING! Our hostel owner was embarrassed of his recommendation as he could see that we were INFURIATED!
Based on my experience, I would recommend that you GO to EAT ELSEWHERE - I.e....
Read moreI had an unforgettable (and unexpectedly extended) stay at Neptuno Sunset Restaurant, and I cannot recommend this place enough. While my initial plan was just to enjoy a meal, fate had other plans. There are several options for exploring the island and foolishly I opted to rent a zebra. I thought a zebra ride would be a fun adventure, but it quickly turned into a nightmare. The zebra was a particularly angry beast and it bucked me off, sending me plummeting down a cliff.
Thankfully, Miss Jasmine, the owner's wench, spearheaded a search when the zebra returned without me. She found me, injured and stranded, and personally dragged me back to the restaurant. Mr Santiago the lord of the restaurant and a man of many talents, set my broken bones and ensured I had a safe, comfortable place to recover. Over the next three months, the staff nursed me back to health with unmatched kindness and care.
The food? Absolutely divine—nourishing in both body and spirit. The ambiance? Warm, welcoming, and brimming with humanity. The hospitality? Life-saving, quite literally.
While I wholeheartedly recommend Neptuno Sunset Restaurant for its exceptional service and heartwarming meals, I strongly advise against exploring the area on zebra-back. Stick to safer modes of transport and enjoy your time at this truly remarkable...
Read moreThe best dinner we had in Rapa Nui, hands down! Neptuno Sunset might not be as elegant or refined as other restaurants on the island, but the quality of the food, both in terms of ingredients and preparation more than makes up for it. Service is extremely friendly and attentive and all the suggestions we asked for were spot on, but then again the food is the real star of the show. The tuna steak I had here was the best I've ever had in my life: cooked to perfection, it was full of flavor and melting in my mouth. So was the local white fish (the name of which escapes me right now) that was supremely moist and flaky even if thoroughly cooked (as per my wife's request). The presentation of the dishes id somewhat homey, but their taste is second to none. The Cuban chef makes simple and delicious dishes, sometimes venturing towards a fusion cuisine that works just beautifully, as is the case of the seafood curry. And do not leave without trying their Pisco Sour, also the best we've had on Rapa Nui! Prices are also lower than most other restaurants on the island and the only reason why we will not go back to Neptune Sunset time and time again (for a while, at least) is that we have to leave the island and Rapa Nui is not exactly a "week-end destination".... Highly, highly...
