Kokoro-Ichi Ka'ge — Restaurant in Hong Kong Island

Kokoro-Ichi · Ka'ge is a rather new Japanese restaurant in Wanchai. The restaurant is spacious and elegant. Servers are patient and accommodating. Weekend brunch at HK$438/adult is not cheap for a few reasons:

1. Food quality is inconsistent. While the sashimi is fresh, the yakitori skewers are very oily. The Green Tea Roll is so dry it feels like it has been in the refrigerator overnight.
2. Food selection is quite limited. There are 8 types of appetizers, 3 types of sashimi, 5 types of yakitori skewers. Guests are only allowed to choose one main dish, and are forced to eat a not-so-delicious dessert platter.
3. Hotel buffets at the same price level not only have a wider selection, but also of much better quality.

However, if you opt for their special 2-hr free-flow Dom Pérignon package, HK$ 2,118/person is a very good deal, especially so for champagne lovers who can drink more than a bottle within the limited time. One of the best restaurants I have visited, Japanese or otherwise. Great atmosphere and tastefully furnished. Service is very good. Food is the major surprise. Everything is cooked when order and serves immediately when ready. Price is more than reasonable for such high quality food. We have a birthday dinner there and the PR and Event director Ms Ho made us felt so welcomed and surprised us with some specially and freshly made Chinese birthday buns for desert. She even sang the happy birthday song with us. She also showed us around the Chinese Restaurant which also have the same up market feel. Cannot wait to try out the Chinese Restaurant too. Excellent experience and food. All cuisines are delicious at a reasonable price. The restaurant is spacious, making it great for gatherings of 10 people or just two or three. Staff is very professional and polite, they provided us with brilliant service. We stayed for a bit longer but Stella still didn’t urge us to leave and continued to provide good service.
