Mendel's — Restaurant in Hong Kong Island

We have heard mixed reviews but living in the area thought we would give it a try at lunch time. I ordered an avocado bagel the avocado with black spots all the way through and fully black round the edge. It was clearly rotten. I asked to change it, the server was lovely but the lady behind the counter was clearly annoyed saying loudly I don't know what you all want me to do all I have is hard and very soft avocados then continued to mutter under her breath and complain and was clearly angry with us. We felt very awkward, if they didn't have ingredients I would have changed my order. I wanted to leave but my husband was already eating. The second one they brought was improved but still black in places. The hash browns were also so oily we couldn't eat them, they were terrible. Unfortunately first and last time...

Mendel's is a delicatessen located on Catchick Street in Kennedy Town. They have a decent sized indoor seating area along with a small outdoor section. You can do take-away orders as well. Opening hours are 8am to 4pm daily. Menu features a range of bagel inspired breakfast and lunch offers, a fair number of vegetarian friendly options as well.

I recently stopped by recently and was served a good smoked salmon bagel sandwich that tasted just fine. Price and portion sizes were exactly what was expected as well. A neat little shop selling breakfast items. They are know for their signature bagels. The interior is designed like a typical American diner and the aesthetics are nice. I got their signature smoked salmon bagel. I thought it would be the thinly sliced ones like the lox bagels. But this is more the flakey ones cooked throughout. Makes sense since there's not a lot of fresh salmon around HK. and smoked salmon can get pricey here. Anyways I like it but I feel like its missing some sourness. The dill whipped cream is just perfect and the bagel is not dense and easy to bite into. I'd probably come here again if I'm having an itch for bagels. Probably try some other...
