Seen a few other reviews describing this as a 'fish and chips' restaurant, which it isn't. My dining partner ordered chicken and was served this with mushrooms (yes, just mushrooms). After a stroll from Kennedy down to Sheung Wan she was feeling hungry.. Price for chicken and mushrooms, HKD115. Both items were nicely cooked and seasoned. No other issues apart from the price being a little high for what was more of a snack than a meal.
I had sea bass (Hong Kong, according to the menu) with oven chips. Slightly disappointing to be served oven chips with what was a sliver of fish. The fish was nicely cooked. The batter did not stand up well to a good slosh of vinegar, although the underside remained crispy and light enough. Price for sea bass and oven chips, HKD155.
Other reviews have mentioned the sea views... don't be surprised though, during busier times, to be sitting next to - and I might right next to! - a toilet that has a saloon style door. I would not have opted to stay were it not for the fact that my partner and I had made an evening of paying a visit to our old neighbourhood.
Mosquitoes were an alarming issue. We thought we were being assailed by just one, but when he or she drifted, unobstructed, into the toilet area, we were soon on alert against not one but TWO replacements! Not exactly conducive to a relaxed dining experience.
The staff were friendly and attentive and could not be faulted imo. Food arrived in no more than 10 minutes, which was reasonable, but noticed adjacent diners being served their meals individually 5 minutes apart.
A passable dining experience, aside from the mosquitoes and being next to an open toilet. We will not returning... The fish was quite small, and although cooked nicely enough, was nothing to justify the HKD155 it cost to be served with a few oven chips. I didn't take a foto.
Nb. Not sure why were were charged 10% for 'service' on an already overpriced order🤔 Was this for the two glasses of complementary water, or for the cook/ waiter to bring our plates to us from the kitchen, which was all of 3 or 4 metres away? Just another very blatant HK-style...
Read moreA Very very unfriendly Asian lady serving us that day! The restaurant was almost set but their shop clock was two minutes shy and we were not allowed to sit in. Actually that clock was slow coz all ours were pointed at 12:00 exact! Even thought it was drizzling a bit buy the short hair lady with glasses didnt seem to care if we would get wet in the rain. I must say that I would have left to other place to justify but we have waited too long for it. Nothing changed about the menu..we all know that they ain't as nice as the ones on menu but then again, I decided to go cheap This time coz I'm so fed up with that lady attitude. Seriously I will not ever go back and I will make sure none of us will ever as long as we see that short hair Asian lady with glassses on duty. her face was so long and hard as if we came in to give her trouble and the way she spoke to us was short and blunt... asking our order in incomplete sentence! Thanks for spoiling our lunch gathering Miss short...
Read moreFish & Chick is located along New Praya along the promenade in Kennedy Town. They have some indoor seating, you can do take-away as well. Opening hours are 12pm to 9.15pm daily. I picked up a Sea Bream & Chips lunch set with sweet corn soup and a drink recently. Order was ready in 10 minutes, portion size quite good and prices reasonable. Fish fillet was a bit oily but fresh and tasted fine. Chips are unsalted, lemon & tomato sauce provided. Overall, this was a good fish and chips order. Note, there are bench seats along the promenade that make for a good spot to enjoy your Fish & Chick orders. There is more seating nearby at the Belcher Bay Promenade...
