I have been to Proof years ago and seldom revisit, both due to the location and the fact that the pastries didn’t give me the urge. It was not until recently I witnessed how the honest feedback of a customer was elevated to something hostile and ugly. Photo #1 was what I am referring to - it sounded to me the customer was simply giving his/her virtue with regards to the food (which can be very personal) and the attitude of the staff (which can also be subjective). However how the owner responded to the comment shocked me: presenting “not disclosing the name of the reviewer” like an act of charity while I trust if the reviewer considered the comments sound and honest, he/she would not mind speaking out with their real identity (which she did, see the Google review) blaming customers who write negative reviews publicly and demand them WhatsApp/email the business privately equating “a business that can survive the past 2.5 years” as “a business which is worth supporting”
As expected and similar to all cases of a PR crisis, Proof deleted the post.
While I was amazed by all of these, I still think I should go pay a visit before I comment as I got to look at the full picture. Naturally I picked the cinnamon roll at the center of the storm. The day I went there, there was only one type of cinnamon roll (and I checked w the staff to confirm so). As depicted by the reviewer, the first layer isn't filled with cinnamon spread and not glazed. Honestly, it was not an issue if it tasted good. Yet, it didn’t. You may say I was biased but I may prefer something from Bakehouse or Frenchies, the cake shop at Four Seasons would be next level. While it still tastes better than those at IKEA, I would rate it at 1.5 stars having considered the taste (not entirely balanced with too much cinnamon in the middle but too little at the outer layers), texture (too dry and not chewy) and price, let alone the time to travel. Frankly, Proof has its supporters and has been successful, I hope this incident can remind them to focus on their products but not forget about customer service. After all, if they think bad reviews kill business, try to avoid getting them, instead of making a fuss demanding people not...
Read moreI heard that this bakery was good and I trusted my frd's advise to visit it. Ingredients seemed nice and I and my papa could feel that the quality won't be too disappointing; however, the customer service was really awful as shop assistants introduced the details (names, ingredients etc.) of the bread to us languidly. We also had no clue about what we bought as the shop did not have any written information about what they made. We did not even know all the bread's prices when we purchased and we did not get the receipt at all. The entire experience was so unbearable as we have never seen a bakery could have mark up the price like this but without any services that could worth the price they set.
Oh, after tasting the bread we bought (a sourdough; a bread with cheese, bacon(?) and zucchini; and a baguette), well, not as expected and there are a few more bakeries that would deserve more for the...
Read moreI live very close to Proof and it used to be my fav place. But I just had the worst experience. The attitude of the staff was horrible. I was curious about a couple of pastries on the shelf and she was very arrogant and impatient. I just wanted to ask what was the bakery under the cinnamon bun - simple as that. But obviously she was not in the mood or for some other reason not want to introduce that to me. Also ordered a cup of coffee there but she was way too careless when making it. The powder was everywhere and the proportion of ice and water was also horrible. I liked Proof for its friendly staff and amazing bakery. Now I am very...
