The hidden Vietnamese restaurant in Happy Valley has a very simple and clean facade, with a warm and cozy yellow lighting that makes you feel comfortable.
The two of us ordered a bowl of train carriage rice noodle soup and a Vietnamese baguette. We also saw that the chef's recommendation was the butter chicken wings, so we ordered that as well.
Before the food arrived, we were each served a glass of water, which is quite normal. But this water was different - instead of regular lemon water, it had pandan leaves, giving it a subtle and unique fragrance.
The train carriage rice noodle soup was very generously portioned, with beef, beef brisket, and beef balls, as well as beef tendon. The broth was rich and flavorful, and there was plenty of it, as they know people can find rice noodles drying out the soup. Also, instead of the usual lime wedge, they served it with a small citrus fruit, showing the attention to detail.
The Vietnamese baguette was also delicious, with a crispy crust and accompanied by pickled vegetables, so it wasn't too "heavy" to eat.
As for the butter chicken wings, the price of $96 for 6 pieces initially seemed a bit high. But once they arrived, we felt it was completely worth it. They were freshly fried, perfectly seasoned, and had a nice hint of citrus that really elevated the flavor. Even my friend said she would post an Instagram story about these chicken wings!
If you have a chance to visit, I highly recommend trying the butter chicken wings. You can tell they pay great attention to details here, so it's worth...
Read moreThe staff members here are extremely rude, first time having restaurant try to limit customer napkin usage. Literally stared me down and won’t let me use napkin to dab my overly oily pork dish. If this was a local Chachanting then I understand, you should bring your own tissue, but this was a full serviced sit down eatery. How much does 5 pieces of napkin cost when you’re charging almost $300 for two people?
Food was also mediocre, their pork dish had zero char on it, was just fried in a lot of oil. They advertised their banh mi as “baked fresh” on the spot, what they really meant was, “we will warm crusty old bread up in oven for two minutes for you”. Banh mi barely had any toppings, not enough vegetable for a good crunch, and the bread used was so mediocre. Got soggy and disgusting really fast. There are much better viet places around the area. Just go to Viet down the block if...
Read moreFew days ago, we visited a popular Vietnamese restaurant recommended by a friend. The restaurant is owned by a chef from Hanoi, offering authentic and affordable Vietnamese cuisine. The restaurant is well-liked by celebrities and is constantly busy, with many regular customers. We enjoyed two delicious pho dishes - Hanoi beef brisket slice soup noodle and Vietnamese lemongrass pork pho. Both were exceptional, with rich broths and generous portions. We also tried the signature Vietnamese-style banh mi, which was stuffed with various fillings like roasted pork, cured meat, and a tasty pâté, all encased in a crispy yet...
