Tai Cheong is one of Hong Kong's most famous makers of local egg tarts (daan ta), serving up this and other local speciality snacks on the streets of HK since 1954. It is a popular place for both locals and tourists to try at both their place along Lyndhurst Road in Central as well as this spot on 2/F of the Peak Gallery mall at Victoria Peak. Opening hours are 11am to 7pm daily.
Egg tarts are HK$10 each and they taste pretty good. The custard is egg based, slightly thick, creamy and moderately sweet. The crust is nicely formed and holds the tart together decently. The salted egg pastry is also interesting as well if you want to try some of their other speciality snack foods.

The egg tart was so good, with the flaky crust, burnt sugar on the bottom (which I've never seen), and egg custard was silky and sweet. However after a few bites I noticed it was making my mouth itchy. I have a nut allergy but egg tarts don't contain nuts. I finished the tart and then ate the pineapple bun, which tbh isn't my favourite bun and I found it dry. I think there must've been some cross-contamination with nuts in the facility bc they both made my mouth and throat itchy, and my stomach hurt later. If this weren't the case, I would buy their egg...

We have never seen a milk tart before so this was a must try for us and we were not disappointed. The tart was so soft but the crust was amazing. The milk flavour was outstanding and it is something I’ll never forget...
