Crystal Jade is a Singapore export that serves Shanghainese food primarily with some other Chinese regional dishes. This particular branch is pretty polarising based on the reviews. The low scores typically are from poor service and/or not being as good as the locations in Hong Kong.

Food: 4 stars Service: 3 stars Recommendations: potstickers, xiao long bao

I travel a lot for work and have eaten at this location at least a dozen times. The fact that I keep returning among the other choices means that I like the food. I agree that the food isn’t as good as other locations but not drastically different. I think it’s pretty close. Some of the details are definitely off like the ginger provided is not that appealing. It is typically not enough in quantity and comes out wet.

The service here isn’t good, but I don’t expect good service at a restaurant in the airport. My biggest complaint about the service is that when it gets really busy it’s hard to get the waiters attention to either order or pay your bill. The food comes out pretty quick and you won’t need to worry about missing your flight. This place is always busy so they are going to try to shuffle people in and out pretty quickly.

What you will see on almost every table is the 小籠包(xiao long bao). I prefer Din tai feng’s version better but some argue that Crystal Jade is equal or better. You will get the thin wrapper with a nice amount of soup. I typically will also order their pot stickers, vegetable dumplings, and the soy noodle with edamame and pickled vegetables. I think all the mentioned dishes all taste good. The soy noodle dish is more of an acquired taste and not everyone will like that.

Don’t be deterred by some of the negative ratings. This place is worth a visit if you are at the airport and want to eat...

Attempted to have a meal at crystal jade at arrival hall HKIA after arriving from KL. Got to a table for 3 persons at the back end of the restaurNt sitting area. Time- approx 5.35pm August 20th. Restaurant was not busy. As my son sat down and placed the umbrella behind his seat, the umbrella fell of the wall and on to the floor, half of it jutting onto the walkway path between tables. My wife immediately told my son to remove the umbrella. One of the serving staff, a middle aged lady in light coloured uniform instantly berated my son in Cantonese- accusing him of doing it purposefully in a sarcastic way. Another lady appeared to take our orders, and I immediately complained to her about the unnecessary caustic remarks directed to my son. I grew increasingly angry as I described the incident to her, and blew my top. I walked out and saw the manager of the place who appeared to be absolutely clueless. HK can arrange special events to attract visitors to visit this city, but it is this type of experience that puts people off. Rude staff piss people off, and should not be allowed to work at the airport. What do you think tired hungry visitors will feel on arrival to HK, to be confronted by uneducated uncivilised rude staff in a restaurant like crystal jade. I eat regularly at the crystal jade at Times Square- whose staff are extremely friendly and excellent. Great advertisement for crystal jade Times Square. Crystal jade HKIA arrival hall- is an absolute...

Expensive, a little deceptive for first timers and disrespect to customers. By deceptive, the following is what I mean: as soon as you sit they suddenly place tea on your table. In Australia, tea in any Asian style restaurant, in my experience, has 100% of the time been free. When they gave the tea, they didn't ask if we wanted it or not. Later we also asked for a glass of water, which was tap water. On the receipt, the fee for 'tea/water' was $24.00 HKD or $4.80 AUSD.

On top of two small plates of food, each about $100.00 HKD or $20.00 AUSD, they add a service charge of $22 HKD !

I don't mind being charged for tea. It is their business and they can charge for what they want. But I would like to be informed about it first so that I can decline if I wish. And charging for tap water? Should that not be just included in the 'service charge'?

These are unfortunate shenanigans, because the food we got tasted very good and it's a shame they have offended us so much with their greedy behaviour. We would like to go back because of the good food quality, but wont because of the disrespect...

Cannot imagine the service quality being so poor. The waitress are not at all responding not welcoming and the place is selling just by just a name. The 52$ 4 dimsum were horrible! I am sure street side hawkers are much better in HK. They were once a Michelin but as per menu seems not any more which indicates the taste. Not sure about it but whatever the tastes doesn’t seem like Michelin quality. The noodles were very soggy! I had to throw away 70% of it. It said in English page that its Sichuan noodles and did not properly mention that its Dandan mein. However it had 0 toppings of meat or green onion. Cannot imagine why tourist line up for this. 12$ for a tea which comes in a glass that is so hot that you cannot even hold the glass!!! Some amazing service! The owner should review how the restaurant operates!

This restaurant located at the Arrival Hall level. Usually quite crowded and you may need to queue for a while. You need to get a queue number from the counter. They will call your number if the seats available. Once you sit down, the waitress will pass you a QR code to place order. The food serve is fast, once you placed the order, the food will come to your table within 5 min. For Dim Sum may take slightly longer, like 10min, because they steam on the spot only after you order. Xiao Long Pao is recommended. Pan fried dumpling also recommended. Good to try. The tea price HKD 12 is included in your bill even you don't order it. The is very common in Hong Kong. Price per person starting from HKD 100+. They accept cash, credit card and Octopus payment.
