A hidden gem in quarry bay! It's a bit difficult to locate if you're not familiar with the area but if you do find it, you won't be disappointed. The bak kut teh here is the herbal kind, so the soup is going to be a bit sweet, unlike the Singaporean version which is saltier and very heavy on pepper. The pork in the soup was tender and the fried bean curds were great to soak up all the flavors. The rice that comes with the soup was also out of this world; fragrant and garlicky, it was the perfect pairing for the bak kut teh. One minor gripe I had was with the fried dough pieces; I wish they were either fried again for a crispy texture, or softer like they were fresh. The fried dough for mine was somewhere in between. It included pork ribs, tofu skin, tofu puff, shiitake mushroom, lettuce, fritters and Malay rice. The broth was lukewarm and tasted sweeter than we expected. Although the pork was soft, the overwhelming sweet flavour somehow detered her from having it.
My dad and I got Seafood Laksa. It consisted of fish balls, fish cake, shrimp, crab stick and egg. It would be nicer if the laksa could have more coconut milk flavour and the shrimp could be fresher.
