This well-known restaurant chain serving traditional Kunming cuisine has several locations throughout the city, but this is probably the most atmospheric one. Located in the Old City and reachable by foot, the restaurant makes full use of its bustling pedestrian street front location in a sympathetically-renovated old shophouse. Both dining levels open out to the street with shutters, and it feels like a very authentic, if slightly noisy, way to experience Yunnanese food culture. We had to wait 45 minutes for an upstairs table, which we shared with another couple. Before being directed to your table, you order downstairs at the counter. No menus here, but you can pick from the array of display dishes and ingredients.
