Riquexó is a small eatery where you can try traditional Macanese food from 12pm to 10pm daily. It is a casual and affordable canteen style restaurant with a handful of outdoor tables, located just off Avenida Disonio Pais. This place has been around forever and is one of the last remaining spots to find pure and simple Macanese food, one of the world's most peculiar and difficult to find cuisines. Unlike the trove of new restaurants going up all over Macau, there is nothing fancy about Riquexó. This is a is a simple food affair. You take a seat, place order with the wait staff and your food will be dished out quickly so you can eat and be on your way. If you are not familiar with Macanese food, walk inside the open take-away section of the restaurant first and have a look. English speaking Filipino staff will happily tell you what the foods are. You can place order here as well. I recently had lunch at one of the outdoor tables at Riquexó , enjoying the remaining nice Autumn weather we have in Macau. For my meal I had a nice plate of Minchi (grilled beef, with chopped onion and potatoes) that was seasoned well and tasted good. Quick lunch like this with a soft-drink will cost around MOP60-70 per person. There are desserts and coffee on the menu as well. In the end, Riquexó is a neat option for food travellers eager to try local Macanese food. Note that the eatery location is a bit isolated but with a map you can easily find Riquexó. Walk past the entrance to Jardim de Flora around 30 metres and look for the bright orange sign on the opposite side of the street. That is Riquexó.

Goodness gracious this is the REAL DEAL Macanese food. Nondescript and tucked away in a side alley in a quiet neighborhood not too far from the ferry terminal. Don't let the steam table cafeteria style service put you off. They also have a nice seating area where you can order from a menu. Wine and beer also served. The selections at the steam table change daily based on the owner who is over 100 years old. From speaking with regulars there, she is still very devoted and shows up daily to manage the place. Good dishes are Minchi, fried fish, stewed radish, soup (changes daily) and the African chicken. Highly recommend the trip if you are anywhere in Macau.

Once a reference for Macanese food, this place is now a complete disappointment. 😞 Apart from staff, the place was void of customers at 13:45 on a Saturday. Regarding the space, it is run down, not very clean and in need of some renovation (e.g., tablecloths, which are a complete health hazard - check the photos). As for the food, I tried tacho (not great, with very dried bits of meat which looked like unwanted bits, lots of cabbage, and some ok pork skin and sausages) and cod rice (the is was the only good thing of my visit here).

Nice little local spot to try Macanese food. Several daily dishes are available as part of their daily lunch deal, which also includes a drink and dessert. Both dishes we tried were very tasty, first time trying this type of food and we definitely enjoyed it. The flan in the end helped close out a nice meal. Service was fantastic, people were very friendly and helpful, recommended a few dishes to try. As in many local spots in Macau, HKD are accepted.

Macanese cuisine (Chinese: 澳門土生葡菜, Portuguese: culinária macaense) is mainly influenced by Chinese cuisine, especially Cantonese cuisine and European cuisine, especially Portuguese cuisine and influences from Southeast Asia and the Lusophone world, due to Macau's past as a Portuguese colony and long history of being an international tourist gambling centre.

A real gem of the Macanese cuisine. A lot of local dishes and all amazing. The typical things are the Minchi and African Chicken but also nice things like the Portuguese Rice. You will love it. And the service is also nice and attentative. Don’t leave without trying the Fig Honey drink. One of the highlights of Macao, so much so, we came twice.
