上海采记饼家 Shanghai Caiji Pastry Shop is the kind of place that makes you realize carbs are a legitimate religion and you’ve just walked into its temple. The air is thick with the smell of baked goods, butter, and the faint sound of your diet quietly giving up.

The pastries line up in shining glass cases looking far better than they actually taste. Picture-perfect, flaky, and golden, yet sometimes delivering more on aesthetics than flavor. Still, there are lots of choices, mooncakes, sesame crisps, and pastries you can’t name but will probably try anyway, just because they look too pretty to ignore.
