I've stayed at the Ruitai Hotel about 4 times now and I keep coming back because it's a pretty solid Chinese style hotel with a lot of really convenient features. I live in a nearby city and I usually have to stay the night in Shanghai to break my journey when flying to other locations. The Ruitai is situated right near several entrances to West Nanjing Rd Metro Station and Line 2 to the airport so it's easy using the metro to get to the airport. It's also right on a busy Eat Street, Wujiang Rd, where there are plenty of great eating options.I especially like Waggas for breakfast and the upstairs Vietnamese Phô restaurant. It's also close to West Nanjing Rd with great expat shopping and many consulates. The hotel itself is big, not new and a bit grimy, but the rooms are really large and comfy with nice big bathrooms, a bath and shower, free toiletries, tea/coffee making facilities, desk, chairs, bedside tables, big TV (I've never turned on) good wifi, and big comfortable beds. They are quite hard as most in China are, but I like that. Check-in and out are efficient. There's not much English, but it's still good. They serve a decent looking breakfast and Illy coffee, but I always go out for breakfast so I haven't tried it. Last time we were upgrade to a higher room on 9th floor, and it really was better, with a view over West Nanjing Rd so I'd recommend that if you can. Last time I stayed, I asked for a late checkout, and they even came and made up my room for me when I went out shopping. Overall, really good, and I'll be...

Read moreI stayed in this hotel once a month for four or five years, the only reason for the change is that this year I am more in Beijing than Shanghai when visiting China BUT I will stay here anytime that I am in Shanghai.||||Shanghai hotels are very expensive so understand that the price of this hotel reflects the fact that it is very Chinese in style. i.e. Beds are "firm" to hard, the reception staff speak some English but are not fluent and most Westerners would suggest that it needs a tidy up||||Generally the rooms are a decent size - there are a few notable exceptions - and easy to work in.||||As noted in other reviews, the location is amazing. Nanjing West Road is a high price retail area and the hotel is right on top of the subway (line 2 and now two other lines) so you can get there from both airports without a taxi if you wish. The area is full of energy and restaurants of a wide variety of styles and quality||||Ask for a router when checking in as the primary internet is cabled.||||The restaurant does a reasonable breakfast but if you prefer there are several places nearby - Twosome, Wagas etc. where you can buy a reasonably priced western...
