Starbucks Reserve Roastery Shanghai (星巴克上海烘焙工坊店 / xingbake shanghai hongbei gongfang dian) opened in the end of 2017. It located in 南京西路 / nanjing xilu / West Nanjing Road, where the second floor of this Starbucks Reserve is connected to 兴业太古汇 / xingye taikuhui / Taikoo Hui Mall. It is convenient to reach this place by riding Shanghai Metro. You could ride the metro to Line 2, alighting at 南京西路站 / nanjing xilu zhan / West Nanjing Road metro station Exit 3, then walking for about 300 m to Starbucks Reserve Roastery. This Starbucks Reserve with its wide space, beautiful interior, and comfortable ambiance has two floors. On the first floor, they display and sell variant of coffee product, coffee beans, chocolate, cakes, pastries (my paradise for sure 😉), mug, and the other Starbucks merchandises. There is also Green Bean Station as the first stop for coffee beans, where the coffee beans will be emptied, then transferred until roasting. The second floor is more for Tea Lovers. They provide variant of fragrant tea leaves where we could smell it on the display, and also variant of Starbucks merchandises. To order the food and drink, we could ask the waiter/waitress here for the menu, choose what we want, pay at the cashier, then wait in our seat until they serve it to our table. Here are what we tried : 巧克力麦芬 / qiaokeli maifen / Chocolate Muffin (CNY 30) Since the first time I saw this chocolate muffin when I looked around the cakes and pastries display, I fell in love with this one. It is a good companion with a coffee either in hot or cold serving. This muffin has a thick cake texture with crunchy crumble, and filled with melted chocolate. Less sweet and so tasty! 烟熏司考寄拿铁 / yanxun sikao ji natie / Smoked Butterscotch Latte 335 mL (CNY 52) On of the recommended hot coffee drink from Starbucks Reserve Roastery as part of the Roastery creations that we cannot miss. The coffee is served on a nice black mug, consisting of espresso and milk infused with a small amount of smoked butterscotch. The taste is not bitter and less sweet. What a good combination!

This Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Shanghai is truly unlike any other Starbucks you’ve likely encountered. As the largest Starbucks in the world, it offers a unique and immersive experience that goes well beyond a typical coffee shop. The centerpiece of the space is a massive two-story coffee roastery machine, a marvel of engineering and design that constantly roasts beans right before your eyes. The roastery is highly automated, with beans moving through transparent pipes that run throughout the store, adding a sense of movement and excitement to the atmosphere. Beyond its impressive roastery, the Shanghai Reserve Roastery offers an incredible array of options that make it feel like a multi-sensory experience rather than just a coffee shop. You’ll find freshly baked pastries and artisanal breads from their on-site Princi bakery, a dedicated Teavana tea bar serving unique tea-based beverages, and even a bar where you can order coffee-inspired cocktails and other alcoholic drinks. For fans of Starbucks merchandise, the store has an extensive selection of exclusive items, from coffee beans and brewing equipment to Shanghai-specific souvenirs, making it an ideal place for gifts or memorabilia. Visiting this Starbucks is an absolute must when in Shanghai, regardless of whether you’re a Starbucks fan. It’s an experience that appeals to coffee enthusiasts, design lovers, and curious travelers alike, showcasing an impressive blend of technology, art, and culinary innovation that makes it a true landmark in the city.

The Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Shanghai is the largest Starbucks in the world with about of 30,000sf. The Roastery features in-house roasting, three coffee bars, an augmented reality experience designed by Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, and a special Teavana tea bar, over two-storeys. It has a great and soothing ambience, so bright and spacious. It feels like an amusement park for coffee and is usually packed with customers and, at peak times, has a queue line extended out of the cafe. On the day of our visit, it was Sunday and you can bet how crowded it was and true enough there were long queues at the counter. We managed to get a table right inside after about 15mins of waiting and thankfully a staff who saw us as tourists and using credit card payments gave us the advance queue priority. Once it, the aroma of coffee spreads in the air and wow, it was amazing! As usual, we ordered some of our regular drinks and cakes and they were really good! So flavourful and nice! You can also see how they roast the coffee beans on the spot and grab of of it's exclusive souvenirs like T-shirt, mugs etc but they are just as Hardrock cafe's prices! (expensive)

Visiting the Starbucks Reserve Roastery was an extraordinary experience that goes far beyond just grabbing a cup of coffee. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by the rich aroma of freshly roasted beans and the sight of the roasting process in action—it’s mesmerizing to watch the craftsmanship that goes into every batch. The coffee drinks are on another level, offering unique flavors and exceptional quality that true coffee lovers will appreciate. The food was equally impressive, with a menu that perfectly complements the coffee. Whether you’re indulging in a pastry or something more substantial, each bite is crafted with care and pairs beautifully with the beverages. Overall, the Starbucks Reserve Roastery is more than just a coffee shop—it’s a full sensory experience that leaves you with a deeper appreciation for the art of coffee. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something special.

It is said that this is the biggest Starbucks Roastery in the world and we visited to validate. And maybe it is ! There was a line when we arrived and we did not wait that long. The cafe was crowded. The ground floor and the 2nd floor seats we occupied. We waited to be seated near the roasting production line while my niece did the ordering. I was able to take a video of the upper floor. And was so surprised to see a bar next to a tea station. I forgot to mention that they also have a bakery downstairs. The downside part of this experience is the toilet. It is not inside the store. It is on the 2nd floor on a corner outside the second floor entrance. No lift / elevator to take you up but a flight of stairs. It was hard for the seniors in our group. But we did enjoy our coffee and the pastries too. This is the biggest Starbucks I have been so far.

Easy place to locate. You can take the metro line 2/12/13 and take the exit 3 or 5. In fact, it will be good to download the Shanghai metro app for all cheap travels around China/Shanghai. (average costs per person is only 3-4 RMB) This 2 level building is much like the other Starbucks except that it actually has the roasting and packing facility inside and you can just spend your time watching the process or just go shopping around for mementos, apart from sipping on your coffee. They have great spread of pastries and only gripe is that you need to queue to enter. Nothing really extraordinary, but a good 'been there, done that' place. Toilet is located on 2nd floor, in the shopping centre but not in Starbucks itself.
