Starbucks Reserve Roastery Shanghai (星巴克上海烘焙工坊店 / xingbake shanghai hongbei gongfang dian) opened in the end of 2017. It located in 南京西路 / nanjing xilu / West Nanjing Road, where the second floor of this Starbucks Reserve is connected to 兴业太古汇  / xingye taikuhui / Taikoo Hui Mall.

It is convenient to reach this place by riding Shanghai Metro. You could ride the metro to Line 2, alighting at 南京西路站 / nanjing xilu zhan / West Nanjing Road metro station Exit 3, then walking for about 300 m to Starbucks Reserve Roastery.

This Starbucks Reserve with its wide space,  beautiful interior, and comfortable ambiance has two floors. On the first floor, they display and sell variant of coffee product, coffee beans, chocolate, cakes, pastries (my paradise for sure 😉), mug, and the other Starbucks merchandises. There is also Green Bean Station as the first stop for coffee beans, where the coffee beans will be emptied, then transferred until roasting.

The second floor is more for Tea Lovers. They provide variant of fragrant tea leaves where we could smell it on the display, and also variant of Starbucks merchandises.

To order the food and drink, we could ask the waiter/waitress here for the menu, choose what we want, pay at the cashier, then wait in our seat until they serve it to our table.

Here are what we tried :

巧克力麦芬 / qiaokeli maifen  / Chocolate Muffin (CNY 30) Since the first time I saw this chocolate muffin when I looked around the cakes and pastries display, I fell in love with this one. It is a good companion with a coffee either in hot or cold serving. This muffin has a thick cake texture with crunchy crumble, and  filled with melted chocolate. Less sweet and so tasty!

烟熏司考寄拿铁 / yanxun sikao ji natie / Smoked Butterscotch Latte 335 mL (CNY 52) On of the recommended hot coffee drink from Starbucks Reserve Roastery as part of the Roastery creations that we cannot miss. The coffee is served on a nice black mug, consisting of espresso and milk infused with a small amount of smoked butterscotch. The taste is not bitter and less sweet. What a good...

I finally got the chance to visit the Starbucks Reserve Roastery on Nanjing Road, and honestly, it exceeded all my expectations. I’ve been to many Starbucks around the world, but this one is on a whole different level it’s more than just a coffee shop, it’s an experience.

From the moment I walked in, I was amazed by the scale and design of the space. The architecture is stunning warm, modern, and spacious, with high ceilings and beautifully designed interiors. You can literally smell the roasted beans in the air, and it immediately makes you feel cozy and excited at the same time.

The ambiance is absolutely fantastic. Despite being a popular tourist spot, it doesn’t feel chaotic. The space is well-organized, and even when it’s busy, it still feels relaxing. There’s a certain elegance and calmness in the atmosphere that makes it easy to spend hours just sipping coffee, reading a book, or people-watching.

What makes it even more special is the open roasting area you can see the beans being roasted right in front of you. It’s fascinating and gives you a deeper appreciation for the craft behind every cup. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about coffee. They were happy to recommend unique Reserve drinks and explain the stories behind each blend.

I tried the Nitro Cold Brew and a specialty latte with a local twist both were rich in flavor, beautifully presented, and unlike anything I’ve had at a regular Starbucks. The pastries were also delicious and fresh, especially the croissants and the tiramisu.

There are also different bars inside the main coffee bar, a Teavana bar, and even an area for mixology-inspired drinks. Everything feels thoughtfully curated and high-end, without being pretentious.

Overall, it was a memorable visit. Whether you’re a coffee lover or just someone who enjoys beautiful spaces, I’d highly recommend checking it out. It’s the kind of place you’ll want to come back to not just for the drinks, but for the whole vibe. Definitely one of the best Starbucks I’ve...

This Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Shanghai is truly unlike any other Starbucks you’ve likely encountered. As the largest Starbucks in the world, it offers a unique and immersive experience that goes well beyond a typical coffee shop. The centerpiece of the space is a massive two-story coffee roastery machine, a marvel of engineering and design that constantly roasts beans right before your eyes. The roastery is highly automated, with beans moving through transparent pipes that run throughout the store, adding a sense of movement and excitement to the atmosphere.

Beyond its impressive roastery, the Shanghai Reserve Roastery offers an incredible array of options that make it feel like a multi-sensory experience rather than just a coffee shop. You’ll find freshly baked pastries and artisanal breads from their on-site Princi bakery, a dedicated Teavana tea bar serving unique tea-based beverages, and even a bar where you can order coffee-inspired cocktails and other alcoholic drinks. For fans of Starbucks merchandise, the store has an extensive selection of exclusive items, from coffee beans and brewing equipment to Shanghai-specific souvenirs, making it an ideal place for gifts or memorabilia.

Visiting this Starbucks is an absolute must when in Shanghai, regardless of whether you’re a Starbucks fan. It’s an experience that appeals to coffee enthusiasts, design lovers, and curious travelers alike, showcasing an impressive blend of technology, art, and culinary innovation that makes it a true landmark...

If you're in Shanghai and love coffee or cool café designs, you can’t miss the Starbucks Reserve Roastery. This is the premium, more curated version of your regular Starbucks. I’m not a Starbucks fan myself, but knowing this used to be the biggest Starbucks in the world when it opened in 2017, I had to check it out. It’s now the third largest, after Tokyo and Chicago. From the outside, the round design already grabs attention – it’s shaped like a giant coffee bean, with an open layout that leads you through the whole space. Inside, it’s nearly 2,800 square meters, with on-site roasting and packaging you can actually watch. There are two floors with handcrafted coffee bars, a premium tea section, fresh pastries, and Western dishes. It’s truly a multi-sensory experience – you see, hear, smell, and taste everything. Of course, the prices are way higher – two to three times the average café. I tried a V60 this time… and still didn’t like the coffee. Not my taste – from beans to brew. But the food was good, and the service was friendly and fast. So if you're coming for the vibes, the design, and the food – totally worth it. As for the coffee? That’s up to your taste
