Another Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant to visit. Visited on a weekend night and there was a queue outside the restaurant. Was considered long probably about 20 people so waited for a while, but managed to get a seat within 15 minutes. This is a popular restaurant and people here recommend trying the niao gao pork ribs. I did see a few other dishes recommended by DianPing but I asked the staff for recommendation and she recommended me to try a pork rice dish. Ordered a few dishes and realized the table that the staff assigned to me was taken by someone else. Had to wait for a while to get another seat. Once I got a table I passed my receipt to the staff and they went to the kitchen to process my order. Didn't take very long for the food to be served. They were all almost served at one go I didn't know which to start first. Had the signature nian gao pork ribs and it was good. Loved the sauce, how nice the pork ribs were fried and how soft and chewy the nian gao was. The fried spring rolls looked so plain but was good the moment you bite into it. Didn't expect it to be creamy with some vegetables inside. The highlight was definitely the one recommended by the staff, the braised pork with vegetables rice. I think I would be happy just by eating the rice itself cause the vegetables complemented so well. The braised pork was also a star because it was so soft, had a good layer of fats and the meat just fell apart and melted in the mouth. Heavenly. The drink was a little disappointing. Didn't expect it to be so icy and dilute there wasn't much taste, but the ending was that the red beans were pretty tasty. Definitely recommend to try this place and the vegetables rice would also be my recommendation. Not sure if it is a standard item cause its not on the main menu only a few additional items listed on a piece of paper pasted at...
Read moreWe went to Xian De Lai mainly because the hit C‑drama “Blossoms Shanghai” (Fan Hua) raved about its pork‑rib rice cakes, so we had to give the place a try.
Here’s what we ordered: pork‑rib rice cakes, chicken noodle soup, fried eggs, and wonton soup. • Chicken noodle soup – gigantic bowl with half a chicken inside; broth was rich, chicken was tender. Solid dish. • Pork‑rib rice cakes – didn’t really get the hype: ribs were so‑so, and we couldn’t finish the rice cakes. • Fried eggs – honestly, pretty weird; we’re not used to how they make them here. • Wonton soup – perfectly average.
Bottom line: worth trying the pork‑rib rice cakes once to see if they’re your thing. If you don’t like them… well, you’ve...
