We waited for almost an hour to get in, simply because this seemed to be one of the better reviewed restaurants in the immediate neighbourhood. My wife was too tired to walk any longer to some others we know that are good.
We did not order their ramen, but sushi and other things. The tamagoyaki was very good, comparable with the better ones we have had in Japan. It’s hot, eggy, moist and delicately layered.
Nothing else was nearly as good though. The gyuutan yaki ( grilled ox tongue ) was under-marinated, under-seasoned, tough and grilled in a lower temp than needed.
The sushi, which we ordered a 9 piece set, was quite disappointing. The rice was under-soaked before cooking. It was even cold and dry when served.
The biggest complaint I have with this setup is, however, with their service. Not that they are not trying, but their management of it. The space is dangerously packed even by HK standard. We were seated two feet away from the butts of the bar-sitters. The space in-between was the main passage of this tiny restaurant. So we were quite disturbed throughout the meal. I basically had to squeeze myself against the wall every time the waitress or a customer passed through.
We frequent smaller restaurants in this city and particularly in Tai Po. None others jam their space so badly as this one.
What’s even worse was that they said they were out of beer, draught, and even sake, with the exception of 750ml bottles. And they dared to paste all those alcohol labels on the wall and advertise itself as a yata style restaurant. Now this is really a first such...
Read moreFound this restaurant on open rice and it had pretty good reviews so I thought I'll give it a try. It was packed when I went which SEEMED like a good start. We ordered a deluxe sushi platter and an eel rice set. After waiting what seem like an eternity for the sushi to come(~30mins), we were shocked to see the quality for the price we paid. The sushi platter cost $268 for something of the same quality as a $50 sushi patter from Yata. After we ate the sushi, we waited for another eternity for the rest of our food to come. Turns out theres only 1 person working the kitchen that day so everything was slow. The table next to us had to cancel some of their order as they waited way too long for their food. After 45 mins, the eel finally came. For the price and the amount of food it wasnt bad, it wasnt anything special, at least the price matched the quality.
We left feeling more hungry than before and didnt want to order anymore food or give anymore time to this place as they clearly couldnt keep up that night. If you come here dont order any of the expensive items. They clearly arent...
Read moreProbably one of the best ramen place in Hong Kong!
This is my 2nd visit (20th Apr, 25) and I picked truffle ramen ($88) (松露) with straight ramen (直麵)with slow-cooked Char Siu (慢煮叉燒) and... they never disappoint!
The soup base is thick and rich, and although I picked truffle, the truffle taste doesn't overwhelm the pork bone soup itself.
Soft and juicy char siu served along with perfectly cooked soft boiled egg just elevates the experience it altogether.
I have ordered Cheese Tamagoyaki with Mentaiko Sauce ($88) which is one of their signature side dishes. It's an soft egg roll served cod roe sauce and Katsuobushi on top. Breaking it open you'd have cheese string stretching out from the roll. Needless to say, the flavour is overwhelming and is pretty wicked!
Would definitely recommend and revisit in the...
