Tierradentro Café in Cali is a hidden gem that perfectly encapsulates the laid-back yet vibrant spirit of the city. This multilevel establishment not only serves as a café but also exudes the vibe of a super cool hostel, which I believe is connected to a hotel. The place is incredibly popular among locals and tourists alike, drawing a diverse crowd that comes to work, chill, or just enjoy a good meal in a unique setting.
Upon entering Tierradentro Café, you are welcomed by a friendly staff that maintains a high standard of service throughout your visit. The interior is spacious, with the original charm of what seems like a Cali-style brownstone that's been creatively converted. They've stripped the typical furnishings and instead installed a simple yet functional kitchen that focuses on a compact menu dominated by pasta dishes and sandwiches. Despite this simplicity, the variety of options available means you're likely to find something to enjoy.
One of the café's standout features is its outdoor seating area. Tucked away in a beautifully maintained backyard garden, this space is highly coveted by patrons looking to enjoy their meals in the open air surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of nature. It’s an ideal spot for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city while still being in the heart of it.
Inside, the café extends over two additional floors, offering more than just dining. These levels are designed with workers in mind, equipped with tables and comfortable seating that make it an excellent spot for digital nomads or anyone needing a pleasant place to focus. The Wi-Fi is strong and reliable, which adds to the work-friendly atmosphere.
The café's location in El Penon, nestled on a hill, provides a unique vantage point and adds to its allure. The neighborhood's quaint streets and friendly atmosphere contribute to the café's charm, making it a must-visit for anyone in Cali.
Whether you're looking for a spot to work for the day, a comfortable place to relax, or simply a pleasant dining experience, Tierradentro Café offers it all. Its combination of friendly service, delightful setting, and simple yet satisfying menu makes it a standout establishment in the city.

Read moreThe setting is absolutely lovely. I went last night with a group of friends. We were going to enjoy a meal before the big game. Our group was unaware of the Covid restrictions on the placement of customers. When I inquired on behalf of my group about adding an additional person, it was explained that we could not due to fines. I said okay and relayed to the group that our friend could not join us. I was not told that the host was trying to fix the situation so that he could join us. We had texted the friend and told him not to come. Later, the host came to me and said he had rearranged some things. I told him that was okay, we had uninvited the friend. He then yells at me in front of my friends. I KNOW he was frustrated, but the situation was 1. embarrassing 2. uncalled for. The others texted our friend and he came and had a beer with us. My evening was done. I live in the neighborhood now. I will not be returning to this cafe anytime soon if ever. There are plenty of others with charming settings, great coffee, and delicious food. The group agreed that the frustrated host was not being personal, but he still should not have acted that way. It ruined...
Read moreI felt that I have to warn people about this place. It was one of the worst experiences I’ve had in Cali so far. Extremely long waiting time for some fried eggs and they weren’t even at full capacity. Service was terrible as well. They offered little to no excuses about the waiting time. Food was super basic and expensive. I will not return and will not recommend to anyone. Save your money for a better place. In response to the owner’s comment below, we were not given the heads up about the extra long waiting time when we requested a table. Just the unapologetic attitude in her written response can validate my original review. I’ve had plenty of good experiences in restaurants in Cali where 99% of the time I’ve included 20% tip as it is costumed where I come from for good service; But this place should not even be operating on special holidays if they do not have the capacity of providing adequate service. Again, I recommend people spend their hard earned money...
