Arriving, the host wanted to sit us in a high table near the front with the dj. But that was too loud for us. And we got seated where the music was less intense.
Told the wife to get the beef tenderloin and I got the Argentina beef sealed with coarse black pepper.
Well, the food arrived and both plates looked identical in appearance. The only reason I found out it wasn't "Argentina beef was because it came with mashed potatoes, which none were in sight and peppering of the beef.
Ok, so I started to eat the salad and felt a hair like texture in my mouth. I located it and pulled it out before I could eat it. All this was before eating the beef or finding out it was not what I had ordered.
So, I called over an employee and showed her what I had found. She said "Que Pena"(What a shame - commonly used in Colombia) So she retracted the plate.
After this I kinda lost my appetite but since I hadn't eaten since noon and was hungry and tried of walking. I stayed. Wife ate her tenderloin and shared some with me. Should of listen to my gut and cancelled the order.
So, the plate finally arrived and waiter tries to lift with prong and then changed his mind once he felt the plate was cold.
Ok, now we got the correct plate Argentino sellano en pimienta(Argentina beef with sealed coarse black pepper)
Man that crush of pepper it look delicious.
But, once I taste it from high to super low. The meat was practically cold and wife committed the same. I got the meat cooked the way the Chef recommended because medium well(3/4) was not recommend by the Chef.
The meat was hard to cut with and wasn't nice and tender like the tenderloin. But rather cold with fat with some lukewarm meat. Texture of the meat stringy hard to break down with the teeth.
The lady host asked if everything of up to par in regards to the meat. If I would have to told the truth I'll probably sit there for another 30 min to 1hrs waiting for the meat.
I wasn't offered a discount or drink for the bad experience.
O well you lose some and...
Read moreAs an American tourist, I was informed that Andrés Carne de Res boasts the best steak in the city. A very cordial host greeted us, and upon request, we were seated on the top patio, which offered beautiful scenery. However, this is where the problems began. After sitting down, I quickly realized the quality of customer service in the restaurant was lacking. The table we were at was unstable, and when I asked to change tables, a waitress named Margarita responded in the rudest manner possible. When I requested her to lower her voice, she turned around and walked away, displaying further rudeness. Fortunately, a second waitress provided better service, and despite the late hour, we decided to stay.
By the end of my dinner, I asked to speak with the manager, hoping to resolve the issues without having to write a negative Google review. However, this only made the situation worse. The manager, named Sammy, approached our table with apparent annoyance. He did not introduce himself and bluntly asked in Spanish, "¿Cuenta que pasó?" It's unclear what kind of training or sourcing this individual has received to be a manager at a large chain restaurant like Andrés, but Sammy's approach was deplorable.
To summarize:
The food was cold and of low quality. The customer service, aside from the host at the front, was terrible.
If you are a person of color, particularly Black, I would not recommend this establishment. In my personal opinion, I was treated poorly because of my skin color and because I spoke Spanish. It seemed they judged me without knowing my background. Colorism appears to be a significant issue at...
Read moreAfter a disappointment at La Biferia in Bogota, I finally had a great steak on my trip! Unfortunately, this could not make up for the worst dining experience I've ever had. To start, it was super hot and the music was louder than any of the clubs I went to in Cartagena, making it impossible to have a conversation. Because of the music ordering was impossible, since the waitress couldn't hear us at all. Furthermore, it took us an hour and a half to get our food because the waitress would keep coming back after taking our order to tell us they didn't have what we ordered. THIS HAPPENED 5 SEPARATE TIMES. When the food finally arrived, only 2/7 of us were happy with our food. Two of the steaks were absolutely overcooked and dry, and 2 others sent their food back, including the one member of our group who always eats things even if he doesn't like them. To top it off, not only was the music unbearably loud, but the DJ was awful and had no idea how to transition between songs. It would have been better to just have a Spotify playlist going. We thought the unbearably loud music was because of the company party going on, but the manager said the atmosphere is normally like this. It is more of a "rumba" place than sit down place, which makes no sense to me, but keep that in mind if you come here at night. One star for the starter (a giant patacon with toppings), which was delicious and I was able to enjoy it before they cranked up the music, and one star for my steak. I would not come back during dinner time, but might give it another shot...
