When I first checked in I was optimistic about this cute little hotel in a very ideal location. However the wonderful view soon faded. I noticed that most of the construction of the rooms is wood and single panel glass French doors which do not completely lock. Located on a busy Square where traffic has to lay on the horn because there are no streetlights as they go through the intersection, combined with a street side A taxi stand, A small plaza of street vendors, and a mixed crowd, I wasn't feeling very comfortable nor tranquil alone in one of these rooms. ||||When I checked in having arranged for my travels through an online platform, the hotel had absolutely no record of my booking nor had they ever heard of the site. They asked me to pay in advance for the room. As we negotiated for about 25 minutes and there being no air conditioning or really a place to sit or put my bags- I finally asked in Spanish because the staff speaks absolutely no English-if I could just go to the room because I was very tired after my very long trip. It was never clear to me if my booking had been resolved but they never asked me again for payment. ||||The room I had the first night was not as loud as the second, however there was about a foot and a half around the bed and that was all. There were two drawers located inside the platform of the bed where I could actually put my stuff. Beyond that it was very cramped. I got terrible bruises all over my legs from bumping into the very sharp corners of the unfinished wood bed inside the room. The bed was extremely hard and cheap and it had one sheet on it and not even a blanket I had to use my towels as a bedspread it was about as glamorous as camping. ||||After 24 hours of not being able to flush my toilet they relocated me to the room next-door which was a much larger and had French doors on three sides. ||||I soon learned that while all of this light was very charming in the afternoon it was very very hot, and come around 6 AM, the noise was absolutely unbearable. ||||The booking company finally, after an hour and a half of troubleshooting over the phone (and probably a huge phone bill), moved me to another hotel. ||||I'm not terribly picky but I need to feel safe, secure, have a comfortable temperature, reasonably friendly and helpful staff, and not be unable to sleep. ||||If you're willing to put up with these things the location is great and there are beautiful views. However I would advise you that this hotel unfortunately needs to be completely re-thought an order to accommodate the basic needs of its guests. ||||I've stayed in hundreds if not thousands of hotels in my lifetime and I have to say that perhaps this was one of the most negative hotel experiences...
Read moreThis place is touristy but done in a fun way. The prices are really reasonable and the food is good. I have the coctel especial 571 which is a cold mixed seafood seviche with their "special sauce". It was satisfying and fresh. I really liked it. I had a Club Colombian beer and it tasted bitter. It wasn't past expiration but it seemed like maybe they left the bottle out in the sun and it spoiled. I also had a mojito. It had too much lime and not enough sugar or rum. It cost the same as my ceviche as well but still is refreshing. Sitting at the bar is a bit strange because the floor seems to actually slope backwards and you feel like you're falling back out of your chair. Every time someone walked by, it rocked my chair. Definitely some foundation issues there. The brass rail for the bar is also set back about 18 cm which is too far. The stool either has to have two legs over it or you're sitting back from the bar so far you can't lean on it. The bar top is beveled so much that the first 3" of it is unusable. So overall, this is a terribly...
Read moreI took a trip to Colombia for my 50th birthday with my daughter. The first 5 days were spent in Cartagena at this hotel. The hotel was beautiful and had everything we needed. There is a restuarant and bar beneath the hotel rooms, they have gated entry that you must be buzzed in to enter or leave, they have a beautiful rooftop pool, you have breakfast directly across the street at the sister hotel and the breakfast is delicious with lots of options, we had plenty of hot water and great WiFi, the staff held doors for us and assisted us in every way they could. We spoke very little Spanish but they made us feel welcome and they were very friendly. When we checked out they hired us a cab driver they knew and on our way out of town the hotel called him to let him know my daughter had left her tablet in the room so we were able to turn around and go back and get it. I was very impressed and would recommend this to anyone going to the walled city. Our balcony was beautiful and caught a...
