Overall good food, but the price was high and the service is impersonal & rude. The shrimp were very large and delicious. The seafood en crema was divine and most of the other food was very good. The sea bass and “filet mignon” (actually just skirt steak wrapped in bacon) were ok, but nothing special. However, the service from Rueben was beyond appalling. He took about 20 minutes to begin to take our dinner order. When he finally arrived, he grabbed my closed menu before I could open it to order. When I attempted to retrieve it, he walked away without a word and didn’t return for several minutes. Additionally, the second round of drinks were clearly without much if any rum (I knew by both the absence of alcohol flavor and the metallic taste of the cheap rum they used). I mentioned this to Rueben when he finally returned, he simply rolled his eyes and did nothing. I almost always tip 20-30% because servers work hard and must unfortunately tolerate a lot of abuse. However, I didn’t feel I could add anything above the required tip. Rueben missed out and I’m very sorry to say this is the most negative review I have ever written. I suggest going elsewhere (like Lidia’s Place, Kaya’s Place or Nema) for better value, food and gracious...
Read moreMopri’s was recommended to me by a local who said their curry sauce was amazing. Always looking for good inside tips on food, especially from natives I decided to check out for dinner.
Tables are scattered around this restaurant that faces the busy street standing between it and the beach so the atmosphere isn’t anything special, although they did have live music which was nice.
The curry however was very noteworthy and worth having with the fish, shrimp, meat or chicken which is what I had it with. The sauce is creamy, flavorful and yummy. The chicken was juicy and the plantains gave it a nice crunch as well as something else for me to dip the curry in.
There wasn’t a desert menu that I could tell, but I was so stuffed from the meal that it didn’t matter.
Lunch or dinner this will be a great choice for you. And be sure to sample the concoction of shaved onions, carrots, peppers in a plastic container at each table; it’s a local spicy sauce that pairs wonderfully well with the curry and kicks your tastebuds into high gear with a heat...
Read moreWe took the fish plate for 2. Everything that was server was overcooked and certainly not fresh. (Except the fish filet which was realy nice) Next to that there were no clams or octopus to be found in the plate (as mentionned on the menu) When asking the staff about it they said they were ‘out’ of clams & octopus (which can be the case but would have been nice to know while ordering). We took vegetables as a side, don’t: you’ll get a portion of unfrozen veggies with not taste or seasoning. Our most expensive and most dissapointing meal in Puerto Viejo for sure. FYI: don’t think they tried to offer a solution.. we paid 100% + 10%service I don’t recommend this place at all plenty of great...
