Sushi Shokunin — Restaurant in Jacó

Pulling up we found ourselves second guessing the overall 5/5 reviews from the internet about Shokunin Sushi. “No where gets a solid 5/5; it’s probably just a bunch of friends writing that... no way... too small... why isn’t it packed? Should we go to a larger place?” I genuinely feel embarrassed a thought like that escaped my internal dialog.. This was without a doubt the correct choice for our last night’s dinner in Jaco. This gem of an establishment is small and inviting. It is tucked away right next to the ocean off the highway. A good mix of four-legged and bipedal friends. It has an attentive and markedly personal service.. it felt like how home NEEDS to feel. I almost didn’t want to leave with the Rasta-surf vibes going and tasty sushi filling me up! All four entrees were delightful (the plantain sushi roll was my favorite, a totally unexpected mix of flavors, that melded together wonderfully). To provide an example of how much we enjoyed this evening: we bring along a Polaroid with 10 exposures to capture the happiest moments in our travels, and had to take TWO shots in an hour here (and one was for Steven to keep for himself. He is really just a welcoming human. Steven:Thank you again, we loved your place). We left this quaint little sushi place feeling downright great. This clean and quaint little place almost hidden alongside the road far exceeded my epectations. My boyfriend and I stopped here after some car troubles and I'm ashamed to admit we were a little hesitant to go because there weren't any cars in the parking lot and it did not look open. To our surprise the very friendly sushi chef invited us in right away and my boyfriend and i devoured a rider's sushi roll which was so delicious we failed to capture a picture of it! We also had the big portion of the Osaka Chicken and it was easily the best chicken I've ever had in my life.
