Casa Luna Hotel is our magical home away from home. This is our 4th visit to Costa Rica (2017,20,22,24-- three times as a couple and once with our kids) and we have stayed at Casa Luna at least half our trip every time because the feeling here is so beautiful. Back in Utah USA we always dream about how soon we can visit again!
We love the people who work here and the way they take such thorough care of the stunning gardens and comfortable rooms. This whole community weathered the effects of the pandemic with grace and courage through many difficulties, and we are happy to see beloved details returning to Casa Luna such as the beautiful buffet breakfast. We especially love to visit the Luna Spa for the couples massage in the evening amid the natural music of the river and frogs--what a healing space. The restaurant has changed the most since our first visit in 2017; it is still evolving through management changes and, to be completely honest, currently has a shorter and higher priced menu than the more family style broad range we'd previously seen, but with inflation all over the US and the strengthening colone against the US dollar plus of course the need to recover from 2020 and take care of people and facilities we understand why they may have felt they needed to cater to slightly higher budgets on the dinner menu. It's worth it. I observe the way the head chef has a keen eye for detail; while the menu may be simpler than some, clearly they are mindful selections with purpose and elegance, crafted with care and creating a romantic cozy (and delicious!) open air atmosphere surrounded by beautiful plants and wildlife-- everything on the menu is so fresh and local; the tilapia are raised in the Casa Luna gardens' very own ponds! Some of the fruits and plated flowers are from the property gardens as well. The pricing (about 22-70US, 15 for dessert Dec'24) is well worth it for the beautiful spirit here in the restaurant. Luna Grille is always a gorgeous place for a relaxing delicious meal or (our personal favorite!) a wonderful selection of showstopping desserts. We've always loved the classic mouthwatering chocolate volcano cake, the flaming pineapple is so fun, and the crepes are a delectable work of art, but you really can't go wrong -- every one of the desserts is absolutely delicious.
If I could suggest one thing to the restaurant, it would be to offer at least one or two more kid selections and a couple of "budget friendlier" casado choices for the days when weary travelers need simple food without leaving the hotel, and we hope to see more (romantic and gentle but fun) live music in the evenings again. That said, we understand there are many other nearby choices for that if you prefer to keep dinner hour at Luna Grille small and elegant.
We wish everyone here prosperity and joy. Thank you for all you give you to us. Save us a room at Casa Luna because we hope to return many times more in future years. And to those who visit, bring your burdens and let them be lightened by your visit here, return the kindnesses you receive, and strive to pay forward the Pura Vida spirit wherever you go. We leave a piece of our hearts and take a bit of this place with us every time we leave and cannot wait to...
Read morePrices have increased a lot.... Like 40% and are now in USD compared to old menu. We got the seafood casserole appetizer - was amazing. I got the sea bass and shrimp curry which was a very good sized portion but the sea bass would have been better braised or steamed rather than pan fried. Overall was still a classy dish, despite tasting a bit fishy. The wife got a shrimp fried rice dish which was OK. We finished with a tasty piece of tres leches cake. Paid $90 for the two of us, only one of us was drinking. Much better prices for the similar quality can be found just down the hill at the chante restaurant (one with all the...
Read moreHorrible waste of money. Sporadic, nonsensical menu where every item is $30-40 and comes with barely any food. Dishes I had: -pesto Fettucini: a bowl of pure olive oil with bits of basil and pasta. Horrific. -fettucini alfredo: a bowl of pasta with random ingredients (corn, ham, mushroom etc not dictated in the menu anywhere) -chicken with orange sauce: a piece of chicken breast accompanied by spinach and tomato. no sides at all. -pita and hummus: the pita was the size, I wish I was exaggerating, of a quarter
We stayed at the hotel and ate here out of pure necessity but truly truly wish we hadn’t. Mind...
