El Dorado (Sabana Norte) — Restaurant in Mata Redonda

As a person of Cantonese descent, i can honestly say this is the most legit and "homestyle" Cantonese cooking I have experienced in a very long time, and definitely the best Cantonese food I've tried in Costa Rica. It's the right flavours and textures, and not too salty or oily! The Chinese greens (sauteed al ajillo) are a strong favourite, as are their saho chowfun without sauce and Singapore vermicelli.

Edited to add: I have since tried more dishes and find that the saucier ones can be a bit "gloopy". The shrimp on a sizzling hot plate were overpriced (12000 for 8 shrimp) and the Peking duck is not completely authentic. The last restaurant we visited during our trip to Costa Rica Nov 9-13, 2023. Right next door to our hotel it was an easy decision. Ordered the Pork ribs in Hong Kong sauce, the House fried rice and a Tres leches for dessert. Portions were more than adequate and the flavor was great. I completely agreed with other reviewers’ comment: this is the most authentic Chinese restaurant in San Jose. It’s great to wrap up our Costa Rica trip with a nice lunch at this restaurant. The Chinese lady is extremely friendly and nice. It’s walking distance from Hilton Garden Inn La Sabana. The steam live fish is so fresh and tender.
