Restaurante La Cantina — Restaurant in Quepos

Dinner was fine, we had ribs they were very good. However I'm definitely not giving a 5 star for one small detail, the one thing that I really hate when it happens. In Costa Rica you can drink tap water, and you can always ask for a glass of water at a restaurant without being charged for it. Except in La Cantina, the waiter asks if you want some water, and then comes back with a large bottle of water (with their brand on the bottle) and fake the opening of the bottle. This was tap water 100%, and the bottle was already open. They just refill the bottles and fake the opening, just as if it was a new bottle everytime. Of course I wasn't expecting to be charge for free water at the end. For a 100USD dinner for two, this was just too much. I let the waiter know, and his reply was: "next time you will know"! That is a small detail but that just gives you a bittersweet feeling of your overall dinner experience. La Cantina has a cozy ambiance with a train caboose decor and open space concept with open fire grill kitchen to show. There are two levels wherein the lower level has the local duet musicians playing their tunes (mostly Spanish with English songs in the mix), and the upper quiet area. The waiters are not all bilingual but are attentive. Food has good portions. Grilled seabass was delicious and perfectly cooked. Although the seafood curry dish and the seafood soup seemed to have the same ingredients, both are well cooked in their respective flavors and had the smorgasbord of fish, shrimp, octopus, squid, & shellfish which I like. What an amazing gem in the middle of Manuel Antonio. From the service to the excellent delicious food. The service is outstanding... food was out of this world. We had following: house salad to start👌 kids ordered : cheeseburger ( my 6 yr old) ate 3/4 of this giant 🤭 my 9yr old ordered beef nachos- loved it, my 16yr old- seafood linguini- made to perfection, so tasty and hearthy- loaded with variety of deiiferent seafood. Wife had yellow fin tuna steak- loved it. I went with La Cantina sampler plate- perfect steak, grilled chicken, sausage, ribs, roasted potatoes.
