Eat at Joe's — Restaurant in Tamarindo

There was a time when having “nachos as big as your ass” might have been ok or funny or resonate with the audience/demographics of this place. But it’s been years since it is not - quite the opposite. Apart from being outrageously overpriced, food is very poorly made, and the menu is far from being anything healthy or representative of a place where you can find amazing fresh fruit and produce. I heard from an employee: the owners hire less than average cooks, who in turn buy second or third grade produce (just looking at the ham or cheese they use confirmed it) to save some money. That same employee has a better business sense than the owners, since he said “you don’t save money by being cheap with food - you’re going to have a bad reputation with your customers”. Other guests at the surf camp talk about the food at this place openly, saying things like “I only eat the breakfast because it’s included in what I paid, but I have any other meal elsewhere”. In short, Joe, team, it is time to review the menu, and adapt to the audience of the WRSC, which is now comprised of higher middle class people with higher standards and expectations for what they get for their money. WORST NACHOS EVER!!!! I didn’t know you could mess up nachos this bad and today they proved me wrong. Canned cheese, hardly any toppings. A plate of deep fried chips is what you get with a few squirts of melted processed cheese, sour cream and gross gauc. Probably processed and fake as well. You can almost find the hidden beans at the bottom if you look hard enough. We had to order cheese and beans extra because there was basically non on the nachos, we asked twice for this and then it was all cold by the time the server brought it out. They get 1 Star because after requesting the manager twice, she came over and took them off our bill and was very, very kind to us. The waitress however was AWFUL and didn’t want to even acknowledge or attempt to make it right or edible. SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND AVOID THE AWFUL FOOD AND KEEP WALKING TO ANOTHER RESTAURANT! I live in the area and eat at this restaurant two to to three times a week consistently. I honestly don’t understand some of the hostel reviews that are way off the mark? Yes, I also eat at the cheaper sodas and even more expensive places occasionally. Joe’s consistently has great food, quick and responsive courteous service plus the view is the best in Tamarindo. OMG I ordered this dinner the other day with giant shrimp (real giant shrimp!) and steak and salad mushrooms in a killer sauce and mashed potatoes. Everything was amazing! If you want nachos get those in Southern California.
