Habibi in Zagreb is a Middle Eastern restaurant situated on the slopes of the hill above Zagreb, while still less than twenty minutes from the heart of a town. It is amasing hangout place for people whom appreciate good food in calm and joyfull atmosphere.
(Atmosphere/decor)
As you enter the place you are welcomed by a magnificent setting, a delightful marriage of small caffee/lounge entrance and the luxuries of modernity in classic Middle Eastern food court. For those who do not book a table and are waiting, there is a cosy lounge and a terasse.
(The menu/dishes)
The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering Middle Eastern starters and meals. We had the tipical mini meat platter (meze) while we also tried Arak, drink famous in Middle East. They were exquisite. The main course consisted in extra large meat platter for two, which really thrilled us as it taste just as if we were in some restaurant in Damascus, Homs, Beirut or Amman. It all was followed by a delicious home made kanāfah.
(The ingredients/the drinkd/the prices)
All the products were fresh and the dishes had the warmth of home-made food. The chefs takes great care in selecting the best quality ingredients. The restaurant also caters for all tastes by providing a large selection of the drinks of the region, which are mid range priced and worth trying.
(The service/the waiters/the owner)
The service does absolutelly accompany the high quality of the cooking. Contrary to some other places I wisited, where you can hardly get a smile out of the waitresses, in Habibi, the owners, as well as their staff are always around willing to exchange some kind words with all their clients.
(Recommendation)
Considering very competetive price of the food for this type of restaurant, and so attentive waiters´ service, I had a pleasant dining experience with food of the most exquisite flavours. For this reason I highly recommend going to the Habibi - Middle Eastern restaurant, again and again......
Read moreWe went to this restaurant as a family to try the Lebanese food for the first time and the experience was amazing!
This is a small restaurant and if you're driving by, you will probably not be interested to stop for a lunch. But, that will be a huge mistake. Dinning are is cozy, with only few tables (so, be sure to make a reservation), peaceful and prepared for the food festival.
The owners are very nice, joyful and warm people, ready to explain and suggest. We learned about the country, customs, people and food, especially the difference between local and Lebanese' meat. And there is really a difference in taste, not just because of spices. For example, the lamb tastes so good, completely different, in good way, from Croatian lamb, mainly because it misses fat that gives special, and for some people unpleasant, smell.
As a group of five, we took different dishes for everyone and shared everything as we wanted to taste as much as possible. This was a good decision and you cannot make mistake with any food you want to order. That includes the drink - lemonade with mint is a must, but other alcohol free drinks are excellent, too!
We did not plan to take a dessert, but our hosts brought their own, out of the menu, sweet - it was small, not very sweet, but rich in the taste and refreshing. Highly appreciated surprise!
Is it expensive? Compared to pizza - yes, but than, this is not a restaurant for you if you eat only not to be hungry. If you really want to enjoy the food and time with friends and/or family, do not look for other place! We spent more than 2,5 hours for the Sunday lunch - it was one of the best gastronomic experience we had and we will definitely...
Read moreMy Landlady and I went on a date on a cold and misty Thursday Eve. As we drowned our sorrows in gin beforehand, we were quite in a hungry and playful mood as we came by the restaurant. As we layed our eyes on the menu that exceeded much of my expectations for that matter, we quickly settled on a midest selection of succulent Lebanese delights. The waiting staff was very helpful and welcoming for that matter, and the food arrived swiftly. As for the presentation, it was much more than expected, the sheerre attention to detail. Each meal was carefully set up to express the innermost essence of the ingredients. Each bite that we took put our taste buds to newer dimensions, a gustatory experience in its very meaning. Tears rolled down my landlady's fair cheeks, as she tasted the Baba ganush, a quintessence of South Mediterranean spirit, possibly the highest form a eggplant could wish for. I for one was enchanted by the sarmice wrapped in wine leafs. After the meal, wich can only be described as a higher plains experience we immersed ourselves in Lebanese coffee with cardamom. And just as we thaugh to pay up and make our way uptown, we caught the attention of the owner. A strong heartfelt young Lebanese lady with a snappy and very open sense of communication. A breath of fresh air considerering the state of this town and times we live in. She very warmly offered us to try the Baklava, we enthusiasticly accepted. That was the crowning point of the evening, possibly the most well rounded and defined dessert we have tasted in a long time. All in all, quite the essential experience to...
