I have stayed here now for the third time (or fourth), with no regret. My husband and I stayed here 6 nights and booked directly through the hotel. We booked a cab to and from the airport via the hotel, as we have found taxi prices can be a little all over the place. Booking through the hotel was convenient and approximately 29 euro which I thought was reasonable and it's safe. I noted that there is a car park belonging to the hotel on the next street, but easily accessed via an arcade behind the building. We didn't use the car park so am unsure if you need to pay if you use it.

Buffet breakfast was included in the price and as always was amazing with so many choices of local delights as well as the normal continental or cooked breakfast choices. The staff in the breakfast area were flat out but remained extremely accommodating and patient. The place was buzzing and busy every day. Despite this, getting a table and accessing food was not an issue.

I was disappointed on arrival at the hotel that the table and chairs outside were not set up for summer, but you can't have everything. It's my favourite place to people watch but it didn't ruin our stay.

We had a double deluxe room with the tiniest balcony and I believe the only balcony. A little gem of a room. The windows open. There is aircon but it is connected via reception and the windows need to remain closed. An amazing bed as always, with firm, comfortable and softest pillows. The room is large with a desk and chair. If you need a kettle, please ask for one, they are available. The bathtub shower looks a little tired but the rest of the bathroom is fantastic and again a good size. Plenty of power points are available and fantastic wifi that doesn't drop out and you don't have to log in again on returning to your room.

Staff were all kind and helpful. Their laundry service is fantastic and convenient. Not only is it reasonably priced but it arrives back folded and items such as blouses or shirts, hung in the wardrobe. I left the clothes before 9am in the room and when we got back at about 3pm it was all back.

On arrival, a young staff member saw us struggling with our bags and came to our rescue immediately. Check in was fast and convenient as was checkout. As we were leaving early for the airport, they provided us with a massive breakfast box each. So much food that it would be impossible for us to eat, so generous. We returned one and took only a few things. Extremely amazing service.

For smokers, you cannot smoke inside at all, but Croatia has plenty of places to smoke outside. Don't be inconsiderate and smoke outside the doorway as I noted some people doing that were attending a conference. I am a smoker but no need to smoke in people's faces.

The restaurant, the American Bar and Grill, we ate there on two occasions. Service again impeccable and the staff were attentive. I had the most amazing T-Bone steak whilst my husband had chicken wings. It's worth a try or just go downstairs and have a coffee or a drink and people watch. It's not the cheapest hotel, but it's fantastic and last of all the location – there is nothing better than facing Ban Jelacic Square. So many sites nearby, museums,...

Hotel is at a great location that overlooks the main square.

If you want a dose of nostalgia, this is the place to be. You'd find shoe shine sponges, paper and envelopes with hotel logos in a neat paper folder in the room. Furniture is like my grandparents', hardy wood from the last century. Hairdryer also a tube that's stuck to the wall. Gets extremely hot to touch if you want your hair totally dry.

Bathroom looks new and renovated, but the bottom of the shower on all glass walls leak water profusely even though the door appears to close tightly. The bottom edges don't seal water off and we had a flood each time we showered.

The bed was huge and looks newer than all other pieces of furniture. So new that the bedside tables both don't fit. One side has to move outwards away from the wall; the other side, you can't open the wardrobe door.

Breakfast was nothing I liked. It seemed like typical American breakfast spread, and gives me the impression that they're pre-heated packaged food. Nobody working there seems happy. You could just walk in during breakfast hours and help yourself to the food; nobody checks that you're a guest.

Shampoo and shower gel bottles attached to the wall in the bath. They are way too high for 5'4" me. It's impossible to pump when you have one hand holding the shower head. One of them was turned to the wall and locks when you turned it to the front. Really?

We stayed 3 nights. Housekeeping didn't clean the last night we were there. They came to make the bed and emptied the trash.

Wifi was good and stable. Water was strong and warm. Sleep was ok. Noise as expected when you're at a hotel; you hear your neighbors knocking on the doors to get their friends and...

Happening Hotel Dubrovnik is located in the bustling and largest main Ban Josip Jelacic Square, and is one of the most famous landmark in Zagreb. Hotel is accessible to all the main tourist attractions with high walkabilty score. All their reception front desk staff are extremely friendly, attentive and helpful. Was grateful that they successfully helped me to book a last minute day tour to Varazdin and Trakoscan Castle, and also proactively arranged a takeaway pack breakfast for me when I checked out very early at 2:40am. This is pedestrian zone only, so you need to walk around 50 feet to the left of hotel entrance, to the nearest taxi stand. Taxi fare is around EUR30 to / fro Zagreb Airport. Hotel buffet breakfast offers the usual selection of hot and cold dishes. If you ask for room with a view of the hip and happening square (which I had with beautiful view of St Mary's Cathedral and sun rise), be prepared for loud party noise that goes on until wee hours of the morning. Otherwise, ask for a quiet room instead. Room is small and dated with a tiny shower stall, but you can pay more for larger rooms with bathtub instead. Highly recommended for excellent welcoming and attentive service in Captivating and Charming Croatia....

The location is great, but come on, it's not the only option for the area. This hotel is obviously batch booked for tourists. The hotel says it's 4 stars, but I'd say it's actually 2-3 star. The rooms are dated, you can hear the street, and the TV only had one working channel. The bathroom was awful: lights out, no handsoap, we just used our body soap bottle, mold, and the shower/bath flooded the bathroom floor when used. Both the hotel lobby bar and the American Grill restaurant told us they couldn't serve cocktails, only beer and wine despite what looked like a full bar and cocktail menus, which means we went elsewhere after they referred us to each other for drinks(frustrating when they are in the same hotel). The provided breakfast was basic, only one working coffee maker when we were there, so that line was always long. Poor staff all looked absolutely exhausted. Only saving grace was the location of this place, but I would not recommend others to stay here honestly unless they want a budget/cheap option. Nothing wrong with a 3 star hotel at all, just not great if you are expecting a 4 star hotel. I was disappointed with our stay, honestly, especially since it was our last stay of the trip before leaving the country.
