Disappointment.. Birthday dinner was not what was expected! Go elsewhere for 1/3 of the price with 10x better service!!
We visited Matsuhisa for my birthday a couple of weeks ago and to be honest it was the worst dinner experience i have ever seen. Granted, the hotel is outstanding, looks amazing, but that's about it.. Sit down to eat, and you would have better service at TGI Fridays.. I have been to restaurants and hotels all over the world, eaten at the best places in Cyprus, and this.. doesn't compare with anything.
We were given a table for 2 people although we were 4. We explained that the table would not fit the food we were going to order. Their excuse was that they wont bring all the dishes at the same time! Pathetic.. So some of us who don't eat fish had to wait and watch the others eating until they would clear that dish and eventually bring the meat. A hotel of this standard should have silver service.. At the very least the side dishes should be served by a waiter. The side dishes didn't even come with a serving spoon, nor did the mains. For every dish we ordered we had to keep asking for spoons. The table was so cramped it was not comfortable for us. Yes the food was good, but how can you have such a classy menu, high prices, top hotel but the service be so terrible! As a comparison the week before we were all at Wolfgang’s Steakhouse.. That is the sort of service that should have been expected here.. I ordered a drink and had to wait half an hour and remind the waiter to bring it. To top off the evening, we asked for Cyprus coffee.. It came uncooked, and undrinkable.. The waiter apologised and said he wouldnt charge us for the coffees (when you pay over €300 for dinner for 4 people with no wine you at least expect the restaurant to offer something from 'the house'). So they changed our coffees for espressos, but on the bill charged us for the espressos!! Yes its not the €15 of course, but come on! We said to the waiter "hold on, didnt you say you were going to wipe the coffees from the bill?" his response was "didnt you get espressos after?" jesus christ is that how you talk to customers!! There has obviously not been good training to the staff how to serve and how to be with high class and high paying customers. With our experience, i know that neither of us will ever visit again, nor stay in the hotel (as that is probably also going to be a bad experience), nor eat at any of the restaurants..and being Cyprus, we will for sure inform our friends not to fall for the extravagant look hotel, and that the end result will be a disappointment.
I hope that the required training and management will be implemented soon as its a shame to have such a top spec modern hotel but have customers not repeat their visits.. I can see this place losing custom...

On February 7, my wife and I visited Matsuhisa Limassol to plan my birthday dinner for February 11. We spoke with Dimitris Mentzelidis, who offered two options:
Pay for the VIP room separately and choose anything from the menu
Order a set menu for 15 guests, where the VIP room would be included for free.
I clearly explained that we might have 13–14 guests, but I would still pay for 15 so that there would be more food. The conversation with Dimitris was pleasant, and we left confident that everything was set for the big day.
📍 February 11 – My Birthday: • When we arrived, the table was not set up • After 40 minutes, no food had been served • We waited in the lounge drinking champagne while all the guests were present • Finally, they brought 5 small plates, saying "this is just the beginning" — but there was barely any food • After I asked them to serve everything, it took another 30–40 minutes to bring some sushi, salad, and hot dishes — enough for only 7–8 people • Eventually, fish and meat arrived — again, for only half the guests
😔 I was embarrassed in front of my guests. After the event, some friends messaged me saying the night was nice, but there wasn't enough food. I reviewed the photos and videos — and it was clear: they failed.
I messaged Dimitris Mentzelidis, asking him to investigate and speak to the chef. Instead, he replied that he "could have charged me for the room but didn’t" — even though I had chosen the package where the room was included with the 15 sets I paid for. No compensation was offered. No apology. Just cold, dismissive attitude — completely unprofessional.
🧑🍳 I want to thank the waiters — they did their best. But the kitchen and management ruined the evening.
A few days later, I saw the same manager in Lidl. He looked at me and walked away without a word. No apology. No respect.
Then, shockingly, the restaurant lied to my bank, claiming they had offered me compensation (which they never did) — just to block my request for a partial refund.
⚠️ I truly love Amara Hotel. Many of my friends stay there. But this experience with Matsuhisa Limassol was a disgrace. They ruined my birthday, and when I tried to resolve it respectfully — they ignored me.
🔍 I urge Amara management to launch an internal investigation and hold the responsible staff accountable. This was not just a mistake — it was a failure in professionalism and...
Read moreThe worst experience that I’ve had at a restaurant in years! Absolutely unacceptable. I have been to Matsuhisa at the Amara a few times before. All times have been positive and have left me eager to return. Tonight, on a Monday evening we came to Limassol from Nicosia specifically for Matsuhisa. Upon arrival at the restaurant, nobody greeted us and we had to sit down at an empty table that we found. Even after we sat down nobody greeted us or offered us menus. We had to call over the manager of the restaurant in order to get served. He offered us still or sparkling water but never brought it. The waitress who served us was perhaps the worst experience out of all. Matsuhisa is meant to be a very good restaurant in Cyprus. This waitress couldn’t even offer us a smile. We ordered wine, she never brought it. We had to order it again. She forgot half of our order and was rude and abrupt. Generally the whole vibe of the staff was majorly understaffed, zero attention to detail and unprofessional. One waiter brought us food we didn’t order. At one point one waitress came out of the kitchen shouting about a special dish going out. As if we were in a fish market. Everyone in the restaurant could hear her. The food compared to previous times we have dined there, was below average. The flavours were lacking and it all just tasted like fried food in old oil. Halfway through the meal, we decided to cancel the rest of our dishes as leave. The waitress asked if something was wrong to which we reply, that yes there was a problem. She says absolutely nothing. Makes no enquiry as to why. She leaves and comes back with the bill. We received no apology, nor any sort of question as to why we were so unhappy of why we were leaving halfway through our meal. The manager didn’t even bother to enquire as to why we were dissatisfied. We will definitely never be going to that restaurant again. You should be ashamed for the terrible standard you are offering under such a prestigious name and hotel. We have been to Matsuhisa in Athens, St. Moritz and Munich and there is no comparison. This most definitely does not represent what chef...
