The tavern is beautifully decorated with a traditional aesthetic and atmosphere. On some nights a week, they have live music by these lovely gentlemen who were a delight to listen to. They had all the restaurant guests clapping and some even dancing from how well they played. I cannot fault the décor whatsoever. Plenty of opportunities for great photos. Unfortunately, the food seemed to be a hit and miss. One of my party members ordered the ‘Halloumi Ravioli’ and were very disappointed, having tried it myself, I can attest it was very bland with practically no taste at all. This was sent back, and staff were very understanding and apologetic. I had ordered the ribs which were splendid, the meat was beautifully tender, and I would recommend this dish to anyone visiting.
The beef and lamb Stifado was also very lovely and a true taste of traditional Cypriot food. I will say the prices are not cheap however the portion sizes are hearty which nicely balances out. When given the option to have wedges, rice, sweetcorn, or side salad, please be aware that the meal does not come with wedges and rice, and then you get a choice between sweetcorn or salad.
The menu is slightly poorly written and quite confusing, I did ask the waiter because I was expecting to also receive rice, but he was very apologetic, and he brought the rice out regardless. The service was great, however there was some confusion and I think they forgot our table of 8 order as they had to retake it an hour after waiting for the meals. I understand but also, its not the greatest feeling to have to wait an hour and a half for your meal. Thank you to all the staff at Old Village Tavern and we...
Read moreThis place is just disgusting! It’s definitely a tourist trap! We ordered 2 fish meze for 70€! and two meat meze for 48€! with 4 people. Nobody of us liked the food, so we asked for the manager but he didn’t really listen and he just said that they have their place since 30 years and they never had a complaint before. We kindly asked for a solution but he just repeated all the time, I don’t accept your complaint, the food is perfect and he just left the table, ignoring us. So we started a conversation with our neighbor table to asked other guests how they like their food. As soon as the staff recognized that, they came back to our table and interrupted our nice conversation with our neighbors and forbid us to talk to other guests cause they were afraid that other guests will also complain, they started to be very aggressive against us. So we’re feeling totally uncomfortable and our ladies got scared and we decided to leave that place immediately. We put half of the bill in cash on the table and was about to leave, but one of the waiters just blocked the exit and was pushing us back. We told them several times that they shouldn’t touch us but they became more and more aggressive and more staff appeared to stop us of from leaving. They were about to start a fight with us and forced us to pay the full amount, which we did when the chef came because he’s absolutely perfect in threaten people to scare them. Actually it felt like they had that kind of situations a lot of times before and they knew how to handle that situations in...
Read moreWe were put around the corner, outside, as far away from the entrance as possible. It wasn't intentional, I guess that was the most practical place to seat my family of six.
Food was good, or at least it was better than average. I got lamb chops and I've had better lamb chops down the road. I asked for mint sauce and they forgot. When I asked again they brought me a well used jar of mint sauce with a drop left in it. No concern for presentation but at least they accommodated my request.
I suppose the main reason for my review is the service. I can't criticise the men who served us too much, but we were just ignored for far too long. Ordered a glass of coke, didn't arrive. By the time they came back into our area we needed two glasses. They eventually arrived and brought three glasses.
After eating we wanted another bottle of prosecco but the 20 minute wait (and counting) was just too much.
We didn't get to see any of the entertainment as that was inside. I'd have hoped that the entertainers would be able to walk around the restaurant to enable others to share in the experience.
€182 for my wife and me and our 4 kids without having deserts. Desperate to get out of there in the end, just had to wait for our bill for 30 minutes.
I wouldn't tell people to avoid this place, I think the food is nice enough to warrant a visit and the entertainment would be great if you could witness it. Maybe book in advance and request a table inside.
The front of house lady was the biggest disappointment. She's miserable...
