Previous trips to this establishment over the last 20 years have been pleasant and the food tasty and bountiful. I'm am saddened to say that this is no longer the case. We were a party of 8. We reserved a table the evening before and were sat inside by the grill. Once seated we were ignored for about 10 minutes, perhaps to ponder over a drinks choice or stare at the meats on the grill(?). When it came to ordering drinks we were expected to know what we wanted (and we were not given options). The waiter took only 7 of the 8 orders for drinks and it was another 5 minutes before we could get him back to complete the order (not impressed by this point). The head waiter (who seemed rude and short-tempered) took our order for food. Half the table had the 'full kebab' and the others had the veg meze. Elements of the veg meze were delicious (the houmous, aubergine especially), and elements of the full kebab were great too. Unfortunately the service let us down, we waited about 20 minutes between servings of meat. We had to complain to get served some of it (they seemed to have forgotten us despite being sat at the front of house) and we still didn't get everything that was ordered. The portions were measly. Too much fat on the lamb chops, you get the idea... The guy behind the grill was doing small batches of meat in a random order which can not cater for the size of the establishment. Whilst there we saw a couple of other customers 'finger' the dessert buffet so decided to go get ice cream from the harbour. We complained to the manager on the way out about the poor treatment and he shrugged us off with lame excuses. Overall not the best experience for our last evening out, thanks Niazi's...
Read moreI wanted to LOVE this place but I was torn.
We travelled from South Cyprus to spend the day in Kyrenia. My Turkish friend were eager to have "Lamb" Sheftalia, so we picked this place.
As a vegetarian, I ordered the veggie meze. It turned out that the veggie meze was just the same stuff as the meat meze (minus the meat). Nothing extra, nothing special. They could have done so many things... Some mushrooms, artichokes, different cheeses... Anything would have been better than the same stuff the rest of the party had (Cacik/Tzatziki, Hummus, Tahini, Yogurt, Salad, Beetroot, Olives, Cabbage, ONE piece of Halloumi/Helim, a cheese roll/Sigara Borek and bread (which we had to repeatedly ask to be topped up).
The meat eaters were very happy with the "taste" of the food but were disappointed with the "quantity" offered. Especially for the price paid. They simply weren't generous enough with their portions...
One good thing not mentioned, the desert bar is in a dedicated area which you can access and help yourself. I think kids would love this element but if you are big eaters, you may be disappointed...
Read moreAs soon as we sat, the waiter came and asked if we would have fish or meat menu since the fish is served at a different location across the restaurant. After checking out the other restaurant, we came back and took the same table. The waiter and came and said something like “meat menu right?” we said yes, not knowing that the restaurant has a fixed menu called “full kebap” which is like a taster menu for 250 lira per person (with a selection of some kebaps, kofte, lamb chop, etc). I was upset by the waiter’s abrupt bringing of the full kebap although we had no idea what it was. We were not given any explanations as to what this was. We asked for a menu but still did not see this full kebap on the menu except the very left first page of the menu. When I tried to explain to one of the hosts walking around and checking on tables, he had the same abrupt dismissive style. I would not go back except for the lamb chops maybe. Overall, I was not made welcome in this place, which is a sad for tourists like me. The mezes overall...
