I was hesitant to try this restaurant due to the review score being under 4.5, but I was really craving Indian food and oh boy am I glad I did; they not disappoint! I do love Cypriot food, but after 2 weeks of it this was just the blast of flavor my taste buds were craving.
My favorite dish was the prawn vindaloo, which was just a delicious spice bomb that exploded in my mouth. I also dearly loved the creamy saag paneer which my chili garlic naan soaked up so brilliantly. The final dish was the Chef’s special chicken curry which was a delicious mix of creamy, sour and just the right amount of spice that danced in my mouth. Special it was!
The service was also on point, in fact almost too good! I think they came by 5 times to check on us and by the end of it we felt like we were best friends with the waiters. Which I can say is pretty rare to happen in Cyprus!
It seems most of the bad reviews on here were due to the portion size. These people are not doing Indian food right! The point is to order several dishes and share, which would not be possible if they gave huge portion sizes (at more expensive prices). For us, ordering 3 dishes and a side naan bread, we were definitely beyond stuffed, and the price was very reasonable! I was so relieved the portions weren’t bigger to be honest, because staying at a hotel we couldn’t have taken a to-go box (and I hate wasting food!).
Anyways, I digress. If you love flavorful food made by friendly people, give The Raj a try. It’s truly food fit for a king, and your taste buds will...
Read moreI'm from the north of England, we know a bit about curry, and I've been cooking Indian and Pakistani food since the 80's. Both Al Kitchen and Misty Ricardo are personal friends of mine (Google them) I went here based entirely on the good reviews, I can only imagine the majority of reviewers wrote about the wrong place. What I will say however is the staff are absolutely brilliant and attentive, service was superb, now onto the food.
Poppadoms and an over priced pickle tray, I photographed the onions, never on planet earth have they ever seen Indian restaurant style onions, I almost offered to go in the kitchen and show them how to do it! Secondly, the starter, I had the king prawn pakoras, my sister had onion bhajis. The pakoras were seriously overdone which created a dark batter and chewy prawns, worst pakoras I've ever had. The onion bhajis lacked flavour and were VERY overdone, photo attached of the pakoras and a piece of burnt bhaji.
Onto the mains, a very average mixed tandoori which claimed to be lamb, chicken, seekh and beef kebab, the lamb was chicken with more food colouring added (no I'm not joking) and the beef kebab was half a beef sausage! Again I'm not joking! The portion of curry sauce was very small, the nans weren't bad but the peshwari naan is very sticky and I had to go in the toilets and wash my hands, low and behold there was another bloke in there washing his for the same reason. Sorry, far from impressed, expensive and...
Read moreFood was no where near nice even, but that will teach me not to read online reviews before visiting a restaurant. We ordered two starters (onion bhaji and chicken pakora) and two mains plus one pillau rice n 2 naans. Starters were good, however the madras that arrived was not madras, it was mostly masala floating in my dish, I have indian roots and I eat this curry regularly and usully a favourite and I have to admit this was the worst I have ever had, when I complained about the curry and asked to be offered an alterntive they brought out an english manager was not happy about changing the curry and even had the odasity to say to me "that he is not even gona discuss how bad the curry is and that he sells these all the times". Manager did bring me a pilau rice on the house, I then ordered a chicken jalfrezi which was edible until I realised the chicken was abit raw. I felt sick so we just paid n left, however the mango lassi wasnt even yellow (tasted more of saffron then mango).
Even the naan had a sour milk taste to it. Honestly I was ill all nignt with a tummy ache. It...
